Munish Gupta/ Sumit Sharma Jammu, March 20: In a situation changing fast towards free for all, the Jammu University campus was today rocked by a shooting incident in which a security guard sustained injuries. What came as more shocking was the fact that shooting incident took place well inside the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat and right outside his chamber. The University officials appeared at words as the shooter was an outsider who used to spend most of his time at the Campus. Panic gripped Jammu University campus when a youth opened fire at another which missing the intended target hit a security guard injuring him in the leg. Sources said that at time of shooting incident only 32 out of 150 JU security guards were present at the campus but none of them could catch hold of the shooter who ran away without even being chased. It all happened when two groups of students were protesting inside the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat on two different issues while Vice Chancellor Varun Sahni was chairing a meeting inside his campus. Early Times Report Jammu, March 20: Cornered by rising incidents of human rights violations, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today favoured the withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the state, saying that the situation was "normalising". "I believe it is realistic," Omar Abdullah told a television channel when asked if the operation of the act could be discontinued in the state given the situation in Pakistan and the Lok Sabha elections. Noting that the special powers were given to Army due to "unusual situation" that arose in 1989-90, Mr. Abdullah said, "(withdrawal of AFSPA) is something we are definitely looking at." Army accepts charge, indicts its men for “lapse” in Bomai killings

Early Times Report Srinagar, March 20: Under tremendous pressure especially from the Ministry of Defense, the army has completed the internal inquiry into the Bomai incident and has indicted three of its men including a Junior Commissioned Officer for the killings that has turned a major flashpoint for the army. “The high level Army Court of Inquiry headed by a Brigadier has been completed. The Inquiry has held the Junior Commissioned Officer and two soldiers of 22 Rashtriya Rifles, who were involved in the Bumai incident accountable for various lapses,” said a defense minister spokesman based in Srinagar. Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 20 –The security situation prevailing in Jammu region was reviewed at a meeting of the Core Group held at the Headquarters of 16 Corps, at Nagrota today. The meeting, presided over by the General Officer Commanding 16 Corps and Security Advisor Lt.
