Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, May 4: In their third successive strike since announcement of the Parliamentary elections in Kashmir---and the first ever in the Central Kashmir constituency of Srinagar-Budgam---suspected militants today fired upon a National Conference (NC) leader and left him critically wounded in downtown Srinagar hours after Durbar Move offices opened for the season and Omar Abdullah attended first day of his work as Chief Minister in the summer capital. Informed sources told Early Times that a youth in mid-20s took out his pistol and opened fire on Abdul Aziz Fashoo S/o Mohammad Subhan Fashoo R/o Khankah-e-Moula in the capital city interior at 1930 hours this evening. With three gunshot wounds on his hand, thigh and abdomen, Fashoo was evacuated to SMHS Hospital where doctors subjected him to surgery and late tonight believed that he had chances of survival. Early Times Report Kishtwar, May 3: After weekend break students normally hate to turn up at school on Monday morning, but Government Higher Secondary School, Parmar, nearly six kilometers from here, the scene was not quite like this. The school was buzzing with activity, students were pouring in and the people had just opened the class rooms. The only wait was for teachers. Unfortunately they did not turn up as the vehicle they were traveling crashed into a gorge killing 30 commuters -20 of them were teachers and 10 posted at Parmar school alone leaving the Principal to battle for life. Chaman Kaul Jammu, May 4: With Monday morning’s ghastly incident near Kishtwar, the total death toll in the major road accidents in Doda region (erstwhile Doda district) has touched 83 since January this year. Roads are becoming more horrible than militants in the area as militants were less active than road accidents as per the records. In January 2009 accident claimed 12 lives, in February dreadful accident took 41 lives and on 4th May 30 people lost their precious lives. Early Times Report Jammu, May 4: The Indian troops, guarding the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir, have been asked to intensify their vigil on the border following reports that Pakistani agencies may push into the state bigger groups of militants after Pakistan withdrew about 10,000 Army personnel from its border in Occupied Kashmir in recent days. Early Times Report Srinagar, May 4: The Election Commission of India Monday issued notification for bye-elections to Hazratbal Assembly constituency. According to the notification, the last date for filing nomination papers has been fixed as May 11 while as scrutiny of nominations will be done the next day. May 14 has been fixed as last day for withdrawal of candidatures. Polling will be held in the said constituency on May 30 between 7 a. m. and 5 pm. Hazratbal Assembly constituency has a total electorate of 86,668 including 45,498 male and 41,170 female electors.
