Posing a challenge to the Peoples Democratic Party, its insider and rebel Ghulam Hassan Mir has finally come up with his own party –Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party.
Armed with some dissidents of the parent party and another seasoned politician of Valley, Mir claimed that his party will be a viable democratic alternative to the Peoples Democratic Party and National Conference. Interestingly, shortly ahead of launching his party, Ghulam Hassan Mir had called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi last week. His meeting with the Prime Minister was an apparent bid to tell people that he has strong blessing of New Delhi.

Coinciding with the formation of Ghulam Hassan Mir’s party, the PDP suffered yet another set-back when its former general secretary Javid Ahmed Dar, who had quit the party recently, joined the opposition National Conference.
Dar, who had quit the PDP on May 2 following a strained relationship with the party leadership, was formally inducted into the NC by its patron and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah at the party headquarters here.

Continuing with its pace of transfers and postings, the government today placed two more junior officers in the higher grade of Kashmir Administrative Service though in their own pay and grade.
This is one of the several dozens orders issued in past few weeks when junior officers have placed in ranks of or equivalent to the Sub Divisional Magistrates.

Smitten by controversies of the past, the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board has made it clear that no pilgrim will be allowed to have darshans at the case shrine before stipulated period of the years –June 18.
Two years back the board was caught in a controversy for earlier melting of the Lingam. However, probe which was later ordered to look into the issue, had concluded that some people touched the lingam even before commencement of the yatra and lit agarbatis (incessant sticks) leading to melting of the stalagmite.

Four army men, including Major K Prabhakar Vinay, who laid down his life after killing two terrorists in the Kashmir valley are among 65 armed forces personnel decorated by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil at a military investiture at the Rashtrapati Bhawan today.
The late Major Prabhakar Vinay and three others -- Major Shtrujeet Kotwal of the Jat regiment, Capt Pankaj Kumar of the Gorkha rifles and Sepoy Suresh were awarded Kirti Chakras, the nation's second highest peacetime gallantry award in the military roll of honours.
