| Red carpets roll out, Vohra walks in | | Bustle returns to civil secretariat corridors as Governor assumes office | | | Early Times Reporter
Srinagar, July 11: After 20 days of high pitched political drama, uncertainty, no work and deserted corridors, the civil secretariat in the summer capital city today once again bustled with activity but it was a rare scene seen only fifth time in Jammu and Kashmir –it was beginning of the Governor’s rule.
Red carpets were rolled out and the cops of Jammu and Kashmir Police with their well ironed uniforms lined up to welcome the new ruled at the civil secretariat. With no signs of political sycophancy, the Governor NN Vohra was presented Guard of Honour by a contingent of Jammu and Kashmir Police. He was received at the Civil Secretariat premises by Chief Secretary, S S Kapur and senior officers. As usual the Civil Secretariat Non-Gazetted Employees Union led by its President, Nazir Ahmed Mir, also welcomed the Governor but there were no slogans as has been practice on the arrival of new Chief Minister.
Inside his secretariat chamber, assuming the top chair of power, the Governor strictly meant business. He had a first word with all administrative secretari...

| Overnight halt to VIP culture | | Those who slept powerful woke as commons | | | Early Times Reporter
Jammu, July 11: One of the most interesting yet intriguing features of the over five and half years old Peoples Democratic Party-Congress alliance was the birth of a unsavory VIP culture across the length and breadth of state which seems to have ended with the abrupt end of coalition government.
The coalition government, which ended rather disgracefully early this week, will always be remembered more than any thing for turning every third person into VIP in terms of ‘protocol’. With the hasty end of the coalition rule on Monday, the VIP culture too has come to an overnight grinding halt.
This end of VIP culture is not only for those petty workers of the parties who...

Early Times Reoprter
Srinagar, July 11: Instead of summoning the officers to the Civil Secretariat or Raj Bhawan, the Governor today drone into the neighboring Police headquarters to get a first hand account of the prevailing security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
Governor’s visit to the Police headquarters was an unprecedented move as no top dignitary has been seen visiting the field offices for meetings. During his meeting with the top brass of Police, the Governor asked the officers to adopt an effective mechanism for dispelling rumours among public. His obvious reference was perhaps to the misgivings about the Amarnath Yatra affairs. The Governor urged officers in the fi...

Jammu,July 11 :-Over the years public opinon has usually favoured an elected Government to Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir. They have usually supported the idea of strengthening all democratic institutions right from the bottom to the top.Whenever Governor's rule is imposed voices are raised against what they call murder of democracy. They are right because all over the world people favour self-rule though many have started supporting those who describe democracy not only the rule of the mob but a clear example of mobocracy.
