Jammu and Kashmir government has dismissed the so called opinion poll conducted by an agency saying that majority of people in India are in favour of independent Kashmir.
The poll was misleading and laughable, state information secretary K B Jandial said today. He said the conclusion drawn by an opinion poll that the majority of Indians were not averse to an independent Kashmir was nothing but to mislead the public.

In yet another incident of terror an Army Major lost his life in an encounter with militants in Rajouri district while a cop of Jammu and Kashmir Police too have been reported killed and three others injured in the incident in which militants managed to escape.

Despite controversies, protests and demonstrations, the holy cave of Shri Amarnath Ji this year attracted a highest number of pilgrims from across the country breaking all previous records.
Due to a violent situation in Kashmir and subsequent tension which prevailed in the state including protests, demonstrations and curfews, it was feared that the pilgrims influx may decline. Governor,N.N.Vohra,has done the right thing.Instead of appointing advisers to him he has decentralised financial and administrative powers by having delegated powers to the Chief Secretary and the Administrative secretaries on taking decisions regarding development activities and on postings.This is likely to lessen the burden on the state exchequer.Financial experts say that appointment of four advisers for a period of four months could burden the state exchequer to the tune of over Rs.25 lakhs which includes salaries,perks and expenses on petrol by the advisers.
