Begani Shadi Mein Abdullah Diwana
7/25/2012 12:02:22 AM
Bashir Assad srinagar, July 24: Notwithstanding widespread perception about "non performance" of Omar Abdullah led coalition Government, Minister for PHE and Irrigation is compiling a book on achievements of his Ministry during last three years or so. The voluminous book, "yes, we can" presently under compilation deals with the whole range of subjects rather achievements- the Ministry claims to have listed on ground and the book also deals with contentious issues like Indus-Water Treaty, dispute with Punjab over Ravi Basin, Wullar Barrage and off-late the most controversial and contentious issues dealing with the status of Hydroelectric Power Projects being run by NHPC in the State. Taj has listed the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act 2010 as a historic piece of legislation that has empowered the State with unbridled powers over its waters and by virtue of which Taj has so far realized about Rs 1200 crores as water usage charges from NHPC. It sounds like Urdu proverbial, "Begani Shaadi Mein Abdullah Diwana" or "Jungle Mein nachay more", at a...

7/24/2012 11:59:35 PM
Bharat Bhushan Jammu, July 24: For the dwindling quality of investigation by police at thana level, unwarranted and unjustified interference by seniors is held responsible. "The quality investigation by police into criminal cases has become scarce and much less than is needed," a senior police officer said. "That is why most of the cases fail in courts of law," he added. The officer said it had been observed that unnecessary interference by senior police officers in the working of thanas did affect the investigations. He said instructions were likely to be issued to DySPs, SPs and district SPs to desist from influencing the thana working, or action under law would be taken against them...

Tasks awaiting new DG police in sensitive Jammu & Kashmir
7/24/2012 11:58:45 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 24: Though the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir has improved when compared to what it was three years ago, still the new Director General of Police Ashok Prasad may not venture to take his new assignment lightly. As far as the security situation is concerned it can be highly unpredictable in a State like Jammu and Kashmir where the law and order has assumed new dimensions after the rise of Pakistan sponsored insurgency in 1989. It can be a graveyard like calm one day and volcano type violence the other day, all depending on the plans of militants who have been receiving moral, material, financial and diplomatic support from agencies across the LOC. Arun causes furore in NC camp
7/24/2012 11:58:31 PM
Neha Jammu, July 24: The national and rational stand taken by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, has rattled and alarmed the sectarian and separatist Kashmiri leadership. Jaitley has been speaking against Jawaharlal Nehru, Congress party and Article 370 of the Indian Constitution under which the solitary State of Jammu & Kashmir is being treated differently and underlining the need to integrate the State completely with the national mainstream. Jaitley has been terming Article 370 as a "conspiracy" and saying that it is because of this provision that the people of the State couldn't obtain what was their legitimate due. Arun has not only been roundly condemning Nehru for th...

NC demands revocation of Central laws
Delhi & Kashmir
7/24/2012 11:58:07 PM
Rustam Jammu, July 24: The National Conference of the Abdullah family yesterday again reiterated its demand seeking withdrawal of the Central laws "unlawfully" extended to Jammu & Kashmir and sought solution to the so-called Kashmir issue under "insaniyat ka dayira". Did New Delhi extend a single Central law to the State between 1949 and till date without the consent or concurrence of the Jammu & Kashmir Government? The answer is a big NO. Yes, New Delhi extended 260 out of 395 Articles of the Indian Constitution to the State. It is also true that New Delhi applied to the State 94 out of 97 entries in the Union List. Similarly, it is also a fact that New Delhi applied to the State 26 out ...

Revolt In MPCC
7/24/2012 11:57:41 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 24: On July 22, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a constituent of the UPA, rose in revolt both against the Union Government and Government of Maharashtra. The charge of the NCP leadership was that the Congress at the Centre and in the State behaves in a dictatorial manner and takes its constituents for a ride. Political observers say the NCP leadership took this extreme step for political and personal reasons and ensure that the Union Government elevates the position of its national president Sharad Pawar in the Union Government and the Government of Maharashtra drops cases of corruption against the NCP Ministers and endorses other demands of the NCP. Politi...
