| Only 27% representations for areas under backward classes disposed off | | 89% pendency in Omar's Constituency | | Bivek Mathur
Jammu, Feb 17: The pendency of rural and far-off areas of the state to be included in backward class areas owing to poor access to basic amenities is rising alarmingly as government is failing to keep pace with the genuine aspirations of the people. Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo admitted on the floor of the House that among many reasons for the pendency, was shortage of chairman and staff with the Backward Classes Commission in the past and said pendency is a continuous process. The question in this regard was raised by former Chief Secretary and now Member Legislative Council Sheikh Ghulam Rasool who sought to know about the total representations received by the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Backward Classes Commission for the last 4 years district wise/area wise and their pendency. The reply provided by the Minister reads that 1733 cases/representations are pending disposal before the commission as on 1.01.2014 including 104 representations received during last 4 years and out of this 484 representations have been disposed of by the commission which makes the figure about 27% disposal out of total 1733 representations received. A total of 65 cases/representations from district Ganderbal, part of the constituency represented by the Chief Minister are pending disposal before the commission, out of which information in 7 cases has been received and are under active consideration before the commission for disposal. Information in respect of 58 cases is awaited from the Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal which makes the percentage of pendency about 89 percent in the constituency of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. |
