| Taj assures 50% concession for BPL category masses | | PDP corners Government over PPP | | Bivek Mathur
Jammu, Feb 17: Major opposition-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today cornered National Conference-Congress government over recently launched Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in twin Government Medical colleges of Jammu as well as Srinagar. PDP's Member Legislative Council (MLC) Yash Pal Sharma today questioned the implementation of the policy (PPP) saying-"Sufferings of public will increase manifolds after the said scheme will be launched in the government hospitals of the state". He (Sharma) raised supplementary over this and questioned whether tenders have been invited or not for the equipments being purchased for the hospitals to be run under the PPP mode in the state to which the Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-Ud-Din replied that a proper policy was used and machinery/equipments are being installed as per the procedure i.e. calling of Expression of Interests (EoI) and fulfillment of other codal/procedural formalities required for the purpose. Another supplementary to the question of PDP MLC was raised by National Conference MLC Bashir Ahmed Veeri who questioned, "Is there any provision of concession for different tests under the PPP mode for the poor and Below Poverty Line (BPL) masses? Is it true that Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare was ready to fund for the equipments and a Director level officer had come to the hospital in the month of October, last year to interact with the Health and Medical Education department hierarchy from Commissioner Secretary to the Principals of both the colleges and had said that Union Ministry was ready to fund for the equipment?" Taj replied that the Director level officer had come regarding NRHM work and not regarding the funding. To another question of Veeri about concession to BPLs, Taj said 50% concession will be given to the BPL masses. Taj also said that some people are unnecessarily giving extraordinary hype to the issue as according to him, the said mode is not going to affect the poor and BPL masses. Later on Veeri tried to raise another supplementary about haplessness of downtrodden to fund even half of the government rates but Taj could not answer his question satisfactorily as Chairman had asked another member to raise another question during the question hour. |
