Srinagar, Feb 17: Although the security agencies in the Kashmir valley are claiming a steep decline in militancy, the protest demonstrations of youths after the gunfights in every corner of the valley are posing a tough challenge for the security agencies and Jammu Kashmir police, which is the exposing lack of strategy within the security establishments. Jammu and Kashmir police, which is contributing in anti-militancy operations along with army, is worried over growing phenomena of protest demonstration of youths around encounter sites as this can definitely derail the prevailing peace in wake of the coming elections. Highly placed sources inside security agencies like in Army and Jammu Kashmir police reveal that protest demonstrations during the anti-militancy operations have become cause of concern for the local commanders of different security establishments. "After every successful anti-militancy operation, police has to control and quell the protests around the site while showing maximum restraint as any untoward incident, can happen," a senior official said. After a gun battle in Pinjora Pulwama in which two wanted militants were killed, protesters on both sides of spot started gathering and started pelting stones on troops, but Police despite air firing and using tear gas shells couldn't quell the protesters. In the same district, forces were impelled to leave the area despite inputs about the presence of militants there. "Soon they cordoned off the area, youths in large numbers came out and resorted to stone pelting during which we believe militants took the advantage of situation and fled away." Official said. Similar protest demonstrations were witnessed in other parts of the valley with the beginning of this year. According to defense analysts, protests and organized funerals is part of the anti-election boycott campaign and hence needs to be dealt accordingly. Highly placed sources said that Army and police have started to finalize the strategy regarding it. "It is definitely worrying as it can affect the existing operational strategy so we have a strategy in pipeline." A police official whishing not be named said. |
