| NC, Congress may loose one seat each in Kashmir and Jammu | | Pahari people to play important role in LS polls | | Sandeep Bhat JAMMU, Feb 17: The Congress and National Conference (NC) which are in coalition in the State of Jammu and Kashmir may loose one seat each in Kashmir and Jammu province in the coming Lok Sabha elections which are going to be held in May-June 2014. As per reliable sources the Jammu- Poonch Parliamentary constituency which has a sizeable population of pahari speaking people deprived of scheduled tribe status from the last 25 years will play an important role in deciding the next Member of Parliament from this constituency. The constituency has around sixty to seventy percent population of pahari speaking people mostly concentrated in the areas like Sunderbani, Nowshera, Rajouri, Mendhar, Poonch, Mandi, Hajipeer and other areas. The Rajouri-Poonch constituency which is being represented by Congress party MP will not be repeated this time due to certain factors. Despite represented this constituency twice at Parliament the present MP failed to get scheduled tribe status for pahari speaking people inspite of giving assurances. Not only had this he also failed to get medical college in the constituency. The Railways which has proposed to lay Jammu-Poonch-Rajouri Railway line in 2013 has been shelved reasons better known to them. There are many other reasons which will lead to a situation where new candidate may emerge as a winner. On the condition of anonymity a leader of pahari speaking people said that their community has been fighting for this burning issue from the last 25 years. He further added that six Chief Ministers and three Governors of the state has given assurances on the fulfillment of the genuine demand of the pahari speaking people. A unanimous resolution was also passed in the Assembly on this demand but nothing has happened so far. All the requirements for seeking scheduled tribe status "socio economic report" has been fulfilled but nothing concrete has come out. In 13 states of the country the Jat community has been given reservation and Jain community has been given minority status, why they are not giving ST status to our community. Same is the case with Baramulla-Kupwara Parliamentary constituency where paharis can play major role and they inhabit the areas like Uri, Karnah, Keran, Tanghdar and other areas situated on LOC. The same fate will happen to present Member Parliament from that constituency. If these demands will not be met the pahari speaking people will decide the winning candidate from these two important constituencies of two regions. |
