Pandemonium in LA, opposition stages walkout over ration scarcity
2/17/2014 11:21:12 PM
Bashir Assad

Jammu, Feb17; Entire opposition was on its feet today morning in the Legislative Assembly over non-availability of ration in many areas and against the failure of the government in providing ration to the households even on 2001 census. The house witnessed complete pandemonium when over the question of G M Saroori entire opposition wanted to ask supplementary questions which was not allowed by the Speaker at the first place.
First it was Saroori who alleged that the government was in deep slumber and that it has failed in providing ration to the consumers on the basis of 2011 census nor has it taken any concrete step to ensure timely distribution of ration even on the basis of 2001 census.
On this entire opposition was on its feet alleging that the government has failed in providing ration to the people of the state on 35Kg/per person as was promised by it. Members from opposition PDP, BJP, NPP, JSM, CPI(M), PDF and independent MLA Er. Rashid all walked into the first row of the assembly raising slogans "ration pani de ne saki jo, voh sarkar nikami hai, jo sarkar nikami hai, voh sarkar badalni hai. When the minister of state CAPD, Viqar Rasool tried to explain the position of the government, PDP members raised slogans, bashan nahi, ration do. There was complete pandemonium for some time as members including A R Veeri and Abdul Haq Khan of PDP, M Y Tarigami of CPI(M), Hakim Yasin of PDF, Harshdev Singh and Balwant Singh Mankotia of NPP, Jugal Kishore of BJP, Professor Chaman Lal Gupta and Er. Rashid and other members asked a host of supplementary question over the issue.
The PDP members stated that it is a very serious issue and a matter of common masses but when the government did not respond they walked out of the house as a mark of protest while as Panthers and BJP members followed them.
Earlier A R Veeri said that around 15 lakh people have not been provided ration cards by the government. Veeri said the government has more than once assured this house that ration will be provided to the consumers of 35/family basis but in actual it is providing only 15 to 20 Kgs. Harshdev Singh said that ration is available only on papers and wherever it is available the consumers are given just 15 to 20 kgs. Jugal Kishore of BJP questioned as to how this government can implement food security act when it has failed in providing ration on the basis of 2001 census.
Tarigami said in a sarcastic tone that this government can provide tehsildars and patwaris (hinting ad the creation of new administrative units) to the people but not ration. Ashwani Kumar of JM said this issue concerns the entire people of the state. Er. Rashid threatened to gherao the house of the CAPD minister if he fails to address the genuine concerns of the people in one month.
Professor Chaman Lal Gupta, Reshpal Singh and others also raised the issue.
