| Saroori refuses Omar's offer of Cabinet berth | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 17: Former Minister GM Saroori has declined an offer to be inducted in the Cabinet. The offer was made by the Chief Minister, but former Minister refused to accept. "CM made the offer to Saroori last week. But he declined to accept it citing many reasons," said a senior official, privy to developments. Saroori has been quite vocal in bringing down the mat of the coalition Government in the Assembly session over many issues. CM apparently to placate him had made the offer. "Saroori had said he will not be able do much work if he is inducted now. Model Code of Conduct will be in place very soon and when Parliamentary elections are over, State elections would be round the corner and this leaves no room for work," said the sources. Saroori was dropped from the Cabinet by Omar Abdullah on allegations that he had helped her daughter to get admission in MBBS. He was cleared by the CBI which didn't find his involvement. The CM had then said he will look into inducting him in the Cabinet but even in the last Cabinet reshuffle he was ignored. The relation between them has not been cordial since then. Saroori , who is close to GN Azad, has also declined with a calculation that if Congress comes to power again, which looks more certain, his chances of getting into Cabinet will be reduced as then so may point out to his being re-inducted in the ministry because of his closeness with Azad. Sarooi had kept his chances alive by refusing the offer. In the process he had also hit back at the Omar who had disgraced him. "Omar re-inducted Kitchloo within four months even on the basis of the interim report when his involvement was very questionable. The same parameters should have been applied for Saroori after he was given clean chit in inquiry. The CM can't have his way all the time and Congress has taken serious note of it and in the process had given sort of assurance to the Saroori ," said a Congress leader, wishing not to be named. |
