Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 17: Following the High Court jab, The J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) has cancelled the selection as well as admission of 12 candidates, named in its charge sheet filed by the Crime Branch of Police as beneficiaries of the cash for paper scam of 2012.
In a status report filed before the high court, secretary of BOPEE informed that admission of Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Yasir Yousuf Dar, Shafeeq-ur-Rehman Lone, Khursheed Ahmad Dar, Navid Ahmad Bhat, Yasir Yousuf Hajam, Bazila Bilal Vaid, Amira Shakeel, Saiqa Manzoor, Ahmad Faraz, Shahida Shafi and Sadam Farooq Shah have been cancelled.
The compliance by BOPEE comes two weeks after the High Court disapproved its tardy approach in sending notices to the beneficiary students before taking final decision on their admission.
The Court had directed that nobody should be allowed to reap the fruits of the fraud and "Whosever has secured the admission in a professional college through deceitful and fraudulent means is to be de-seated"
It has to be done, court had said, so that the meritorious candidates, who would have been able to get admission by dint of their hard-work and on the strength of their merit, are not deprived of usufructs of their labour and get the admission that has been wrongfully snatched away from them.
Regarding implementation of the second limb of the order passed by the High Court on 03 February last for admitting meritorious candidates, the BOPEE said that it involves many stakeholders including the Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar, Principal Government Medial College, Jammu. "The admissions against the seats vacated by the cancellation of admission of 12 candidates in Government Medical College, Srinagar, is to be made from those who would have otherwise occupied the ranks which were fraudulently occupied by candidates whose admissions have been cancelled."
The secretary said that the process of consultation was felt necessary before taking any final decision in regard to the grant of admissions against the vacated seats in favour of meritorious candidates. "The consultation with Medical Council and Dental Council of India has also been felt necessary as the admission against now available vacant seats will be a be a midterm admission."
