JAMMU, Oct 21: The Election Commission of India has confirmed its first snub to the Jammu and Kashmir government by staying most of the transfers of senior officers in administration and police ordered on the eve of poll announcement.
The Commission has though confirmed the change of guard in Home Department but it has refused to approve transfers of the Deputy Commissioners.
The Election Commission has not approved some of the transfers effected by the Jammu and Kashmir Government minutes before the EC announced the unprecedented seven-phase polls in the state on October 19.
The EC, however, has cleared the appointment of Kursheed Ganai as the new Home Secretary replacing Anil Goswami, who has been transferred as Financial Commissioner (Revenue), the EC sources said.
They said the EC had not cleared the transfer of Deputy Commissioners Gazzanfer Hussain, Mohammed Afzal Bhat and Sudershan Sharma of Anantnag, Poonch and Kishtwar respectively.

URI/POONCH, Oct 21: A new era of cooperation and economic development on both sides of the Line of Control begin today as trucks loaded with goods, mostly gift items, cross the Line of Control at two crossing points of Salamabad in North Kashmir and Chakkan-da-Bagh in Poonch.
Hours after flagging off of trucks from this side, consignments from other sides entered the Line of Control in Salamabad on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road. The consignments from Pakistan administered Kashmir on Poonch-Rawalakote road will be entering through Chakkan-da-Bagh tomorrow and the PaK Prime Minister Sardar Attique Khan is likely to come upto the crossing point terminal on LoC.

JAMMU, Oct 21: Elections in Jammu and Kashmir are watched keenly by outsiders for variety of political and security reasons but there are other interesting features which make this exercise unique in the country.
A polling station in Jammu and Kashmir has only 10 voters. This is perhaps the only case of its kind in the country. There is another polling station which is at highest height from the sea level -5000 meters from sea level. In total there are 8,109 polling stations across Jammu and Kashmir.

JAMMU, Oct 21: In the charging up poll season when ‘aspiring legislator’ are keen about their clean image before public, a former MLA of the Panthers Party and potential hopeful from Udhampur Constituency, Balwant Singh Mankotia has earned disappointment as High Court has refused to quash a Police FIR against him.
Mankotia is facing charges of forcibly entering the house of a woman in 2005 along with more than 200 persons causing damage to her property. Justice Sunil Hali of Jammu and Kashmir High Court observed that none of the condition exists in the present case which would enable this court to intervene and cause obstruction in the track of investigation.
