Artist promised job by govt, alleges Haji's son | 'Mimicry' produced as evidence | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 6: Custodial death row of a National Conference worker cum political fixer who allegedly died at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's private residence in Srinagar on September 30, refuses to die down as both J&K government and the relatives of the deceased seem to be hell-bent to prove each other guilty.
According to the relatives of the Sayed Yousuf, government has been desperately ascertaining the details of the bank accounts of the deceased and his relatives to prove that the deceased was a corrupt man who amassed wealth by resorting to unfair practices. However, sources maintain that nothing of the sorts came into the hands of the administration that could substantiate its stand.
Sources told this correspondent that on scrutiny of bank accounts of the Sayed Yusuf's family members it was found that there were Rs. 11000 (eleven thousand) only in the account of Sayed Yusuf while as his widow Mst. Mansoora has 1,03000 (One Lac three thousand) only in her account.
Relatives of the deceased alleged that government has been contemplating to utilize the se...

CM has different yardsticks for commoner, scribes' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 6: The Chief Minister is concerned about the inconvenience caused by draconian Armed Forces Special powers Act (AFSPA) to the `gullible' people. He has evoked severe criticism and opposition for his stand on repeal of the legislation. A question arises. If inconvenience of the people is the criterion for repeal of a legislation that the armed forces of the country deem necessary in `extra-ordinary' situations, then the Chief Minister has to rise to the occasion and take measures to ensure an end to harassment of the fourth estate which forms the back bone of a democratic dispensation.
During Omar Abdullah's regime, the government has become increasingly int...
| | Refugee Problem Jammu deserves special attention | | | Neha
JAMMU, Nov 6: Jammu has over the years become a land of refugees. Over one lakh refugees from West Pakistan -- mostly members belonging to the depressed classes -- have been leading a wretched life in Jammu since 1947. They migrated to Jammu to save their life. Even after over 64 years of independence and forced migration these refugees have failed to obtain citizenship rights despite repeated passionate pleas and protest demonstrations. Their life is nothing but a hell on earth as they are considered a community who don't deserve human rights, including the right to education and vote. No authority cares for them. All those who matter in the state and at the centre focus only on the ...

| | Last year's killings not Yusuf's death pain Omar | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 6: The Chief Minister does not feel guilty for handing National Conference worker, Haji Yusuf to Crime Branch where he breathed his last. Speaking at Tehelka magazines 'THINK' festival that was moderated by NDTV's Barkha Dutt, Omar said," I don't think I did anything wrong. Someone comes to me with allegations of corruption on him, I simply hand him over to the Police. Maybe the stress of returning more than Rs. 2 crore had stressed the fellow."
Responding to a question, Omar said, "Yusuf death, last year's agitation and of course the years bygone have been the worst. I really wish we could have reduced the number of casualties. I will take the grief of last ...
| | Bhim for governor's intervention in J&K | Feuding Coalition Partners | | Rustam
JAMMU, Nov 6: Panthers Party supremo Bhim Singh has been for quite sometime now urging state governor Narinder Nath Vohra to invoke section 92 of the Jammu & Kashmir Constitution and bring the state administration under his direct control. Jammu & Kashmir is the solitary State in the country which has its own constitution. The state constitution empowers the state governor to intervene using its section 92 if he feels that the constitutional machinery in the state has broken down and the administrative set-up collapsed. He can keep the state under his direct rule for a maximum period of six months.
Bhim Singh is of the view that the constitutional machinery in the state has broken ...
| | Silence of political parties over "custodial" deaths is questionable | | | Bharat Bhushan
JAMMU, Nov 6: The silence of BJP and other political parties over the alleged custodial deaths in Jammu is questionable. Even after four days of the death of Vijay alias Lilli allegedly in police custody, no so-called pro-Jammu voice has so far uttered a single word on the issue.
Some local politicians may dismiss the issue as straws in the wind, but a popularity deficit, stemming from graft and handling of such matters with indifference, is likely to stare them in the face in future. If not taken seriously, it may cause the NC-Congress government and BJP an electoral erosion, and could strengthen independents.
