Pak rains bullets in Uri sector, soldier injured

Early Times Report Srinagar, March 21: In a major ceasefire violation after a gap of few months, Pakistani troops fired throughout Friday night at Indian posts in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, leaving a soldier injured. A defence spokesman said on Saturday that Pakistani troops fired between 1500 to 2000 rounds at the Indian posts in Kamalkote area of Uri sector between 10 pm last night and 3 am this morning. Lance Naik Prakash Singh of 10 JAK rifles was injured in the firing. He said that the firing from across the border was unprovoked. Indian troops returned the fire but used small arms fire, the spokesman said. Officials believe that the firing was resorted to by Pakistani troops to provide cover to militants to infiltrate into this side. Three militants were killed in a fierce gunbattle still going on in Drangyari area in frontier district of Kupwara. The encounter broke out yesterday. Agencies Nagpur, March 21: KS Sudarshan on Saturday stepped down from his post as the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), paving way for general secretary Mohan Bhagwat’s elevation to the top post, RSS sources said. The change of guard in the Sangh Parivar hierarchy came during the RSS' ongoing three-day Akhil Bhartiya Pratinidhi Sabha, which is in progress at Reshimbagh Smruti Mandir here. Early Times Report Baramulla, Mar 21 : The Bomai residents, resuming their normal activities today, decided to postpone their programme of mass migration from the village, following announcement by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the Rashtriya Rifle (RR) camp would be relocated. Shops and other business establishments reopened in village Bomai, Sopore, this morning after two days of total shut down. Train crushes woman to death in Kashmir

Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 21 : A woman was crushed to death by train at a railway station in south Kashmir today, police said. Police said a woman Hassina was going to purchase ticket for Srinagar at Panzgam railway station when her burqa got tied with the running train. She died on the spot before the train could stop at the railway station, it said. This was the second accident since the rail was introduced between central Kashmir district of Badgam to south Kashmir district of Anantnag last year.
