TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Political, legal compulsions forced Omar in linking NCTC to AFSPA
5/7/2012 8:16:31 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 6: Chief minister Omar Abdullah like some other Chief Ministers' has expressed serious reserveations about NCTC. However, this similarity about reservation ends. No other chief minister has linked it to the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. Not even from north-east and Assam where the Act is in operation like in J&K and from where demands for its revocation from there are also coming. One of the main objections of the Tamil Naidu chief minister Jayalalitha was that States were not consulted in this regard/ "It is surprising that neither the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs constituting the National Counter Terrorism Centre, nor theagenda note circulated to us mentions the gaps and deficiencies in the architecture of counter terrorism capabilities that necessitated the formation of the NCTC," said Jayalalitha. Even Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, while expressing reservation about it had said that it amounts to infringing the federal structure where powers of the States and Centre have been defined. "Let me make it clear at the outset...

NC spokesman praises of Boss do not mean we are done with AFSPA or NCTC
5/7/2012 8:16:11 AM
Early Times Report Srinagar, May 06: NC spokesman Tanvir Sadiq has said the extension of the NCTC to Jammu and Kashmir could lead to unnecessary ramifications. Interestingly, the NC spokesman has linked the proposed NCTC to AFSPA. Is there any doubt in the minds of NC leaders and its spokesman that it is precisely because of the colossal sacrifices made by the army that we have a situation where the NC is talking of AFSPA revocation? Had not the security forces paid with their blood for the return of normalcy in the state neither the NC would have been power today nor would the NC spokesman dare to speak so frankly. The NC and its leaders are within their rights to make political s...

Mufti, Azad preparing for a big game plan
5/7/2012 8:14:23 AM
Bashir Assad Srinagar, May 6: Two influential politicians of Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and Ghulam Nabi Azad have started net-practice for a final assault on National Conference with their eyes on 2014 assembly elections. All most all the political forces in the state are in agreement that count down for next assembly elections has already started and each of them is strategizing their future course of action in their own way and style. Azad has perhaps realized that the...

2 statements in 2 days over a single issue!
What is wrong with NC spokespersons?
5/7/2012 8:12:50 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 6: In two days, two spokespersons of the National Conference have issued two statements on a single issue. Normally, the development would not evoke a response. But given the internal bickering in the party, the political circles have raised their brows. Tanvir Sadiq, in his capacity as spokesman of the National Conference issued a statement congratulating the civil service qualifiers from the state. He had issued the statement on behalf of the party, Chief Minister and other senior leaders. But today, another spokesman, Sajjad Kichloo also issued a statement a similar statement. "It was a moment of pride for the entire state that ten youth have quali...

Fresh attempts of encroachment at Abhinav Gupt Cave
5/7/2012 8:12:15 AM
Early Times Report Srinagar, May 6: Fresh attempts have been made to encroach the hillock on which the famous Abhinav Gupt cave is situated. According to reports the land mafia which has started quarrying on the hillock has intensified its operations after the Kashmiri pandit community raised its concern against the illegal quarrying of the hillock for which KPs demanded immediate action. The reports said, that instead of taking action against land mafia which is hell bent to threaten this ancient heritage site has intensified its activities with authorities looking as silent spectators. It may not be out of place to mention here that the encroachment of hillock at Beerawah in Budgam ...

Beyond political games over AFSPA Shall pro chancellor help JU get back its land under Army's occupation?
City's important artery continues to be blocked by Army!
5/7/2012 8:11:50 AM
Abodh Sharma Jammu, May 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has vigorously pursued the partial revocation of AFSPA and relocation of Army and the para military forces in the state, particularly in the valley with an eye on the political mileage that such a move can churn out for him; but it is a pity that Army continues to occupy hundreds of kanals of land of the already asphyxiated University of Jammu besides permanently blocking an important artery of the traffic clogged Jammu city. Interestingly, the government, the administration and even the citizen organizations have stayed totally inert to it. An important artery of the city joining Ware House and Bikram Chowk to Satwari ca...

As JK Bank bans smoking another irregularity comes to fore
Unauthorized accommodation purchased, BMC lodges FIR
5/7/2012 8:11:01 AM
Early Times Report Srinagar, May 6: The Jammu Kashmir Bank banned smoking at all its business units. The order was issued yesterday under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA) 2003, which smoking is banned at all public places. Significantly the order has been issued at a time when the bank is in news for all the bad reasons. The OTS issue has come to the fore and a property issue at Mumbai reflects how casually and lavishly the bank management spends public money. The bank, according to highly placed sources acquired 80,000 square feet (Bandra Kurla Complex) at a prime location in Mumbai for its zonal office. The zonal office, sources said have only 25 staffers and su...

1975 Indira-Sheikh Accord Congress didn't take initiative to settle Kashmir issue, says Taj
5/7/2012 8:10:20 AM
NEHA JAMMU, May 6: Congress minister in the NC-led coalition government Taj Mphi-ud-Din has done well to make common cause with Congress MP Lal Singh and make it loud and clear that his party is neither with autonomy nor with self-rule. However, his statement that the "Congress has not taken any initiative for the settlement of Kashmir issue even within the ambit of the 1975 (Indira Gandhi-Sheikh Abdullah) Accord" is both disturbing and misleading. Taj Mohi-ud-Din has only strengthened the protagonists of autonomy like the NC additional general secretary Mustafa Kamaal who have been accusing the Congress of not implementing the 1975 Accord in letter and spirit for quite sometime now. ...

CCI assertion on issues core to Jammu laudable Must break silence on discrimination by J&K Bank in job share
5/7/2012 8:10:04 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 6: Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu has done well in taking on the NC led coalition government for issues core to the people of Jammu which directly hit the masses in day to day life. The CCI statement assumes significance in terms of its assertion on a warning note , perhaps for the first time, asking government to improve power scenario in the region and also demanding a reasonable hike in water tax from people, besides addressing other smaller issues concerning masses. That CCI is most prestigious institution of Jammu is an undisputed fact and therefore its role and image also assumes significance in terms of what it says, contends and demands...

'Suicidal Inversion: Offensive Is Now Peace' PK accuses New Delhi of playing anti-state role
5/7/2012 7:50:44 AM
RUSTAM JAMMU, May 6: What the so-called ultra BJP and the RSS should have done for defending the national cause is being done by the victims of secessionist and communal violence in the Kashmir Valley. Take, for example, what chairman of Panun Kashmir (PK) Ajay Chrungoo said the other day while reflecting on the Congress-led UPA Government's foreign policy or policy towards Pakistan and Kashmir and what he said could be legitimately construed as a scathing attack on the custodians of the Indian State. Besides, what he said suggested that the patriots in the State and victims of secessionist violence are feeling disheartened and abandoned. It would be only prudent to quote verbatim wha...
