| Architect of Indian military victories, Sam Bahadur is no more | | | | New Delhi | June 27
Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw, whose military victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war led to the creation of Bangladesh, died in Military Hospital in Wellington, Tamil Nadu late tonight. He was 94.
The Padma Vibhushan and Military Cross awardee, who was admitted in the hospital for some time for "progressive lung disease", had slipped into a coma earlier in the day and the end came just after midnight at 00:30 am, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

A legendary soldier and a national hero, Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw crafted India's greatest military victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war that led to the emergence of Bangladesh.
Affectionately called "Sam Bahadur" for his close association with Gorkha Rifles, Manekshaw (94) was the architect of many a military triumph but his finest hour came when Pakistani forces were vanquished in 14 days flat.

The civilian toll today mounted to four as entire Valley erupted in aggressive protests and demonstrations and authorities had clamp curfew in south Kashmir town of Pulwama when protestors outnumbered the security forces.

As no signs of reconciliation were seen even on the fifth consecutive day of protests against the diversion of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today had a half an hour long meeting with the Governor NN Vohra in Srinagar to find out some measures for crisis resolution.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also made a televised appeal to the protestors to call off their agitation as he repeatedly assured that no permanent structures are being allowed to come up on the controversial land.

Amidst the mounting tension and a political deadlock persisting in Jammu and Kashmir, the Pradesh Congress Committee president and Union Minister for Water Resources Saif-ud-Din Soz today called on the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
