PDP launches state-wide strike for withdrawal of troops, revocation of AFSPA
6/6/2009 11:37:04 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Jun 6: While claiming that Omar Abdullah-led coalition government had failed at its outset and pushed Jammu & Kashmir back into the dark days of 1996, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today launched a state-wide agitation to press its demand of revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and withdrawal of troops. Having secured necessary permission from respective District Magistrates, PDP today staged demonstrations all over the state to press its demand of withdrawal of troops and revocation of AFSPA. It also called for registration of a case of rape-cum-murder, held security forces responsible and demanded punishment to the guilty personnel. Here in the capital city, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti triggered off her party’s agitation at Sher-e-Kashmir Park, in front of the party headquarters, and asserted that her “movement” would continue until both the demands were conceded by the government. Addressing a gathering of her party leaders and workers, Ms Mufti claimed that Omar Abdullah’s coalition government had faile...

Horror on roads
6/6/2009 11:15:18 PM
Shariq Nabi Doda, June 06-The poor layout and ill management of roads have made hundred of homes headless and children’s orphans in the mountainous Jammu and Kashmir. Alone in erstwhile Doda district hundreds of persons lost their life in tragic accidents during the last six- seven months and most of these accidents occurred because of poor road conditions and over-loading. It is astonishing that after every accident, ministers claim that stern action will taken against contractors and law violators, but with the passage of time every thing gets washed away. The National Highway 1B connecting the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar presents a horrible picture. The boulders lying over ...

Purchase preference can save industries, but Govt does not prefer
6/6/2009 11:14:52 PM
CHAMAN KAUL JAMMU: The Government orders are being brazenly violated by none other than the government departments itself. According the order No 21-Ind of 2004 dated 27 January 2004 the state government in order to save the dying industrial setup made it clear that various departments engaged for purchasing goods must buy from the local industries. But despite being quality and rates comparatively reasonable, the departments refrain to purchase the products manufactured by local industries. Sour...
