KISHTWAR, Aug 9: Eid festivities turned sour at this mountainous town as communal clashes broke out causing extensive damages to the public and Government property and resulting into death of one person.
According to eye witness account, trouble erupted following an altercation between two youth when a religious procession, on its way to Eidgah was passing through Kuleed area of the town. The altercation soon flared up and resulted into stone pelting, following which the youths from majority community went on rampage and set shops and vehicles standing at Kuleed Chowk on fire. In retaliation, the youths from minority community set few houses and shops of majority community on fire.
In violent clashes, over 100 people from both sides including over two dozen police personals also got injured while one person identified as 24 year old Arvind Kumar son of Des Raj Bhagat was killed. Many shops and residential houses were gutted as miscreants indulged in indiscriminate arson and rioting.

NEW DELHI, Aug 9: The Army is expected to order a court of inquiry to investigate if tactical lapses allowed the ambush and killing of five Indian jawans near the Line of Control in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir this week. SRINAGAR, Aug 9: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his father Dr. Farooq Abdullah faced an embarrassing situation on Friday at Hazratbal shrine as a couple of persons raised 'pro-freedom' and anti-India slogans in their presence during the Eid congregation early in the morning.

Jammu, Aug 9: Following communal clashes in Kishtwar where curfew had to be clamped to control the situation on Friday, district authorities decided to suspend ongoing Machail yatra for three days. Official sources said, the ongoing Machail yatra has been suspended for three days or till the normalcy returned to the district Kishtwar.
"About two thousand yatries today were directed to return to Jammu from Kishtwar where situation become tense following communal clashes, sources said, further adding, "The pilgrims were escorted by the police."
