| J&K IIM approved but delayed by year | | | |

Jammu, Aug 27: Due to failure of the state government in indentifying location to the satisfaction of both regions, not the case of Central University has slipped into a perpetual jeopardy, but the prestigious Indian Institute of Management to come in Jammu and Kashmir too has been delayed by a year.
The Union Cabinet today gave its formal approval and funding parameters for setting up of seven Indian Institutes of Managements in the country including one in Jammu and Kashmir. These IIMs were announced were announced by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development on March 29, 2008. As per the decision of today’s meeting of Union Cabinet, four IIMs –to be established at Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Raipur (Chhattishargh) and Rohtak (Haryana) – shall come during 2009-10 while three –to be established in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttrakhand and Rajasthan –shall come up in 2010-11. New Delhi, August 27: Today’s decision by the Union Cabinet to take up the three Indian Institutes of Management, including the one proposed for Jammu and Kashmir, in the second phase is inevitably going to cast its shadow on the Central University that Jammuites have fiercely been agitating for since last summer.
The fate of the CU has somehow inextricably been linked to that of the IIM since both got Central Government’s nod. A tug of war began to bag the coveted institutions by both Jammu and Srinagar. New Delhi, Aug 27 : In an attempt to control pollution, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Farooq Abdullah, unveiled eco-friendly auto rickshaws that runs on hydrogen fuel at the three-day World Hydrogen Technologies Convention being held at India Habitat Centre here.
Abdullah himself took the driver's seat as he drove one of the hydrogen-run trial-based autos that are expected to hit Indian roads soon.
The auto rickshaws are powered by hydrogen fuel. They can run at the speed of 50-70 kilometres per hour and can ply in sub-zero temperature up to minus 30 degree Celsius.
About 20 scientists and engineers worked for seven years to develop these vehicles.
