SRINAGAR, Aug 8: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has emerged clean as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has publicly disowned the “shame list” attributed to it by PDP’s Muzaffar Hussain Baig but he has admitted on the floor of House in Legislative Assembly on Friday that corruption cases were alive against three of his Cabinet Ministers---Ghulam Hassan Mir, Pirzada Mohammad Sayeed and Taj Mohiuddin. Chief Minister has also revealed that corruption-related cases were also underway with the three integrity watchdogs---State Vigilance Organisation (SVO), Crime Branch (CB) and State Accountability Commission (SAC)---against 13 of the former Ministers (who include three sitting MLAs) and three former MLAs

Jammu, August 8: There are days important to the histories and identities of the nations and peoples –August 9 is perhaps one such important day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir which has been interpreted in as many connotations as it suited events and peoples over past five decades.
On this day, in 1953, the then Prime Minister (as Chief Minister was known until 1965) of Jammu and Kashmir, Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, was dismissed from his post and arrested. He remained in jail for almost 11 years. During this period, he was a free person for only four months in 1958.

New Delhi: Observing that the country was facing a "difficult situation" following delayed and deficient rainfall, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said the Centre has adequate foodgrains and would not hesitate to take strong measures and intervene in the market if the need arose.
"Agricultural operations have been adversely affected in several parts of the country causing distress to farmers. New Delhi, Aug 8 : Indicating further trouble due to recent spurt in incidents of infiltration from Pakistan, Defence Minister A K Antony today said the development was worrisome.
Pointing to the fact that reports received from Jammu and Kashmir in the last few weeks indicated a marked increase in cross-border infiltration from the western side of the Indian border, Mr Antony said the development was indeed worrying.
Army officials have said there has been a rise in incidents of infiltration in the valley, with more and more groups trying to enter the region, said the Defence Minister here.
