Fear of detention keeps NC leaders away from Sheikh Abdullah's death anniversary

Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 8: Apprehensive of getting detained if they gathered to pay tributes to the National Conference (NC) founder and former Chief Minister Sheikh Mohd Adbullah on his death anniversary, the NC leaders, activists and workers stayed away from holding any such event in his remembrance in Kashmir this time. Ironically, even through the Governor SP Malik paid tributes to Sheikh Mohd Adbullah on his death anniversary on September 7, and also issued a formal handout in this regard, the NC leaders preferred silence. Though, a few of the NC leaders like Omar Abdullah, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Ali Mohd Sagar are under detention, scores of others from the party, who are free to move around also stayed silent. Interestingly, even the Members Parliament including Mohd Akbar Lone, who is otherwise seen as a vocal face preferred to be mute on the death anniversary of Sheikh Mohd Abdullah though the former has been moving around freely. Malik at present is lodged at Tihar jail in New Delhi for his involvement in terror funding case the court has directed the Police to produce him in the court next week for the hearing of the cases, which were registered against him and accomplices in early 90s. Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 8: Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will become two separate Union territories from October 31 but will have a common high court, State Judicial Academy's Director Rajeev Gupta said on Sunday. He also said 108 Central Laws would be applicable for the two UTs while 164 state laws would be repealed and 166 state laws will continue to be applicable. The Centre had on August 5 nullified Article 370 of the Constitution, revoking the special status of the state. Parliament approved the resolution in this regard and also passed the bill on the bifurcation of the state into two UTs. Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 8: Six tourist projects of Jammu and Kashmir were announced by union government with fanfare in year, 2016 but after lapse of three years from the date of announcement, the prestigious projects are still in limbo. Official sources informed Early Times that in September, 2016, the then Union ministry of tourism had announced six major tourist projects for Jammu and Kashmir with worth of nearly Rs 600 Crores and had also announced that all the projects would be completed in 36 months from the date of announcement. Agencies New Delhi, Sep 8: The ministries of home, law and tribal affairs and the National Commission of Scheduled Tribes have "broadly" agreed to a proposal to recommend "tribal area" status for Ladakh, a senior official of the NCST has said. Internal discussions took place among representatives of the ministries and the commission on September 4 to understand the issue, the official said. Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 8: The situation in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is turning back to normal as the majority of areas continue to function peacefully without any day-time restrictions, said official sources in the government of India. "91 per cent of Kashmir valley is free from any day time restrictions, while all of Jammu and Ladakh regions are free from any day-time restrictions," said sources.
