| One dead on firing practice | | | |

Akhnoor, Oct 24: One person died on spot and other received injuries when they were collecting fired cartridges from a place where army had been undergoing firing practice.
The incident occurred when one Kartar Chand son of Amar Chand resident of village Manna and Rakesh Kumar son of Madan Lal resident of Nathan was collecting fired cartridges in village Khodda.While they were engrossed with their work army 11 Sikh regiments started firing in which one Rakesh Kumar died on spot while as Kartar is fighting for life in GMC hospital.A case under section 304A and 323 RPC has been registered in this regard.

Jammu, Oct 24: In August 1947, Major Onkar Singh Kalkat was serving as Brigade Major at Bannu Frontier Brigade Group headquarter, under Brigadier C P Murray. On August 20, Major Kalkat received a letter from the Commander in Chief of Pakistan Army marked Personal/Top Secret.
The C-in-C has addressed the letter to Brigadier Murray but he was on a tour and visiting Mirali outpost. Without wasting any time, Major Kalkat opened the letter so that he could communicate its contents to his commander.

Jammu, Oct 24: Nearly two months after broad-daylight murder of Amandeep Singh, son of a former Member of Legislative Council, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SP Mubashir Latiefi under supervision of DIG Farooq Khan probing the case today presented challan against seven accused, including main murder accused Jatinder Singh and former SSP Jammu, in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu. For want of jurisdiction, the court of CJM later referred the case to the Court of Sessions Court here and the accused were directed to appear before Principal Sessions Judge on November 4.

Srinagar, Oct 24: The killing of a youth, by the army in northern Kashmir's Baramulla district, triggered protests on Saturday, even as the army claimed that the youth had forcibly entered their camp and injured a soldier.
The youth, identified as 25-year old Sajad Ahmad Ganai, was asked to stop by a guard manning the main gate of an army camp in north Kashmir's Wattergam village in Baramulla.
When the youth did not heed the warning, the sentry opened fire, killing him instantly, sources said.
However, a defence spokesperson said, "Suspicious movement by an individual was observed near the Watergam army camp today morning'.

Jammu, Oct 24: Reacting to the Jammu and Kashmir Government's decision of suspending 27 doctors and reverting back eleven assistant surgeons back from medical education to the health department, hundreds of doctors today continued with their ongoing agitation and staged protest inside Medical College Hostel Premises here.
Shouting anti-government slogans, large number of junior doctors this morning assembled in hostel premises and condemned government’s decision of taking action against 51 doctors.
‘’It is unfortunate that instead of deciding our fate, the government suspended the doctors and announced fresh recruitment,’’ Satish Parihar, a doctors' leader said.

Jammu, Oct 24: The Central Water Commission (CWC) is expected to submit a survey report on the Baglihar II hydroelectric project by November-end, an official said Saturday. The project aims to boost the energy generation capacity of Jammu and Kashmir, a power-starved state.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who holds the power portfolio, cleared the construction of the second phase of the Baglihar project and the 'survey has started'.
The survey by the CWC will have to be vetted by the Central Electricity Authority.
The second phase of the Baglihar project will generate 450 MW of power as was the case with the first phase of the project on river Chenab.

Poonch, Oct 24: In a fresh case of ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops on Saturday fired on an Indian post in Mendhar sector of Poonch district leaving an Army jawan injured.
Pakistani troops, using LMGs and MMGs, fired on Kripan post in Mendhar sector of this border district from 0930 hours to 1030 hours, defence sources said, adding they fired approximately 500 rounds.However, Indian troops did not retaliate and the firing stopped after 1030 hours. But now reports suggest that Pak rangers resumed firing.
A jawan, Om Bahadur, sustained bullet wounds in the firing and was hospitalised, they said.
