After a staggering gap of nine years, the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry is currently in the middle of a hectic electoral exercise. A 75-year old powerful body of leading businessmen, the Jammu Chamber has always played a lead role in espousing the social causes, besides watching interests its basic stakeholders. For the post of the President of Chamber there is a triangular contest between a two-time former President Romesh Gupta, another former office bearer YV Sharma and a representative of the pharmaceutical traders Rajesh Gupta. Jammu, Oct 25:Before he sets out for his visit to Jammu and Kashmir later this week, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in Thailand on Sunday, sought to send out a message that his government is keen to engage with different shades of opinion as also the Kashmir groups which are outside the mainstream. In an apparent reference to Kashmiri separatists, the Prime Minister said, “Government would like to engage some political groups who are outside the mainstream in a constructive dialogue in Jammu and Kashmir”.

Srinagar, Oct 25: Separate inquiries by the district administration as well as the army have been ordered into the killing of a youth in Baramulla district as protests continued unabated against the incident in the frontier district of Kupwara for the second successive day on Sunday.
Deputy commissioner Kupwara Showkat Ahmad Mir ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of 24-year-old Sajad Ahmad Lone.
"I have asked my additional deputy commissioner to conduct the inquiry and submit a report within a month," Mir said, adding ex-gratia would be given to the family of the deceased soon.

Jammu, Oct 25 As the Army-Government pit deepens in the Himalayan enclave of Ladakh, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has accused the Army of taking law into its hands for the reasons beyond propriety.
Months after Army personnel were accused of manhandling the government officials in a remote Leh village when they were returning after removing an encroachment, the Army has been contending that it has powers to do so. However, the government says since Ladakh is out of purview of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, it has the right to move against Army.

Jammu, Oct 25: As miseries of patients continue to multiply and private clinics get overcrowded with elite patients, the government had issued a fresh warning to the striking medicos even as the agitating doctors appear to be on warpath.
Following government’s action of suspending some doctors and reverting others to the Health Department from Medical Education department, the striking medicos have decided to take a massive march to the Government Medical Colleges in Jammu and Srinagar.
