| Anti-terror agency likely soon: Chavan | | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 10: The Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office and Congress General Secretary in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir Affairs Prithvi Raj Chavan has said that the much talked about Federal Investigation Agency to exclusively deal with terrorism is soon likely to be a reality as he hinted at a bill to this effect being moved in the Parliament in the current session.
Upbeat over the outcome of the recently held Assembly elections in Delhi and Rajasthan, Chavan, today hoped that like Delhi and Rajhistan, the people of Kashmir would also vote for the Congress because of its focus on development and peace.
Interacting with reporters at the party headquarters here, Chavan said that the proposed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)to fight the Terror outfits more affectively, would be a reality soon.
"We have now the CBI which can't go to states unless State Governments call it. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will be able to investigate certain crimes immediately. Normally what happens is that the CBI is involved in the investigation long after the cri...

| Probers from different cities in J&K to establish SIM links | | MUMBAI ATTACK | | | ET DESK
New Delhi/Jammu, Dec 10: Investigating agencies from several Indian cities are in Jammu and Kashmir right now, trying to locate a few shawl sellers who cops believe supplied cellphone SIM cards to Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives in Pakistan. Some of those cards were used by the terrorists during the Mumbai carnage.
All 10 terrorists involved in the Mumbai attack carried cellphones, which they switched on after they entered the city. They were asked to call LeT leaders in Pakistan for orders. Cops here have seized nine mobile phones and are searching for a phone that may still be in the debris at the Taj, the Oberoi or Nariman House, the targets in the attack.

NEW DELHI, DEC 10: A huge New Year bonanza awaits the armed forces with Defence Ministry issuing the mandatory instructions to increase the number of General-rank officers in the Army, Navy and the Air Force by this year end.
The instructions were issued recently on the basis of a Cabinet decision in October this year to implement the phase II of the Ajai Vikram Singh Committee (AVSC) recommendations for cadre restructuring in the forces, allowing for greater promotional avenues for officers.
"The instructions are to give a break down of the number of posts cleared by the Cabinet while accepting the second part of the AVSC report. A good number of the new General-rank posts wil...
| | | | In hills, Choppers pulling crowds for leaders | | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 10: Top leaders of many political parties are attracting more crowds in rural and hilly areas than the urban localities –not for their support base for a strange yet interesting reason.
It is probably the helicopter taking several rounds in the skies before landing which is actually attracting more people in rural and far off areas than the charisma of its fliers.
It's election period in Jammu and Kashmir and the political class besides the officialdom all seem to be pressed for time. And this is reflected by the number of choppers which dot the state's skyline. Helicopters have made as many as 350 sorties in less than a month weathering the tough terrain ...

Jammu, Dec 10: Turning his eyes blind over the waterloo BJP met in Rajasthan and Delhi, the party general secretary Arun Jaitly today said that Congress was on the verge of losing political identity in Jammu and Kashmir.
Weaving imaginations into words, the BJP leader claimed that his party was the only political formation registering a growth in its graph in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere in the country. “Verdict is clearly in our favor and we are going to play a decisive role in the state when results are out”, said Jaitly.
Speaking at a press conference here today Jaitley said that Congress must assure people of Jammu that it won't become tail of Kashmir centric ...

Jammu, Dec 10: The Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati today asked the people to chose her party if they want Jammu and Kashmir becoming next Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing an impressive election rally at the Parade Grounds here today, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that she has transformed her state into a new world to live in and has same development plans for Jammu and Kashmir.
Aiming high at the national political scene, the BSP chief had her speech mostly focused on her social engineering mode of politics. While she touched upon the pulse of Dalits and oppressed classed and at the same time she pointed out the poor among the upper classed were worst victims in ...
| | | | Dec 28: The Independents’ Day | | | | ZAFAR CHOUDHARY
Jammu, Dec 10: As people across Jammu and Kashmir keep their fingers crossed to see results of keenly contested assembly elections, the eve of December 28 –when votes are counted –is very likely to be a day of independents and rebels.
Three keen contenders in the ongoing elections –the Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and National Conference –are threatened by each other as much as they are facing challenges from their own rebellious men who jumped into the fray as independent candidates. This in-house damage is more perverse in Congress and National Conference. Congress is apparently the badly hit party which has number of rebels almost matching the official nominees....
