12/25/2012 11:06:56 PM
Asif Iqbal Naik KISHTWAR, Dec 25: Belying Government claims of transparency in appointments in Government departments, an RTI query has brought to fore appointment of a Junior Assistant in the office of Kishtwar Development Authority (KDA) in contravention of norms laid for such appointments. The RTI filled by senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Shakir Hussain Siddiqui clearly indicates that Kishtwar Development Authority (KDA) appointed a Junior Assistant in the pay scale of 5200-20200 without issuing an advertisement for inviting the application from the deserving candidates. Paharis' Threatening Posture
12/25/2012 11:05:50 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 25: Jammu and Kashmir Pahari People Movement (JKPPM) on Monday last threatened that "thirty lakh Paharis" of Jammu and Kashmir would "launch a statewide agitation if Scheduled Tribe (ST) status is not accorded to the community". The threat was administered during a convention of the JKPPM. The convention took place in Rajouri. The Paharis (read the Pathowari-speaking people of Poonch, Rajouri and parts of the erstwhile Baramulla and Kupwara districts) have been demanding ST status since 1991, when the then Central Government granted the ST status to the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities. Gujjar Mahasabha demands inclusion of RSS, Hurriyat in talks
Resolution of Kashmir issue
12/25/2012 11:05:31 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 25: Nobody had ever thought that any organization would ever place the RSS and the All-Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) at par and urge New Delhi to start a dialogue process in which the RSS and the APHC should be involved in order to resolve the over 65-year-old Kashmir issue. But it happened on Monday. The All-India Gujjar Mahasabha (AIGM) equated the nationalist RSS with the separatist APHC and demanded their inclusion in the dialogue process suggesting that their involvement in the discussion is necessary for resolving the Kashmir issue. The suggestion was made during the general body meeting of the AIGM held in Jammu under the chairmanship of its presid...

Cabinet reshuffle speculations rife, NC-Cong eye 2014 elections
12/25/2012 11:08:17 PM
Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Dec 25: Speculations are rife about imminent Cabinet reshuffle along with induction of two more Ministers from Congress and one from National Conference (NC). Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's return from vacations would be followed by expansion in the State Cabinet, induction of three fresh faces and reshuffle of portfolios of non-performing as well controversial Ministers. The reshuffle has become a necessity since the coalition is entering into second last year of its governance and according to the insiders; it has nothing major on its report card to sell to the people of the State in the year 2014. Controversies, allegations of corruption coupled with below pa...
