Jammu, Dec 5: After a busy daylong of marathon of inaugurations, laying of foundation stones, memorial lectures and prayer services in memory of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah it was the time for making keenly awaited announcement –the job policy of the coalition government which has been much in the talk since Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather talked about it in his budget earlier in August this year.
Named after Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and unveiled on his 104th birth anniversary, the employment policy, though not a readymade job ticket, offers at least something for almost every unemployed employable person in Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah read out and explained broad contours of the policy at a crowded press conference here this evening. Though there were huge expectations in the Kashmir Valley where people expected the Chief Minister to make a speech at Hazratbal to announce the policy, but Omar had to return to Jammu to make an announcement after the proposal was cleared by the cabinet.

New Delhi, Dec 5 : Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today condemned the attack on Hurriyat Conference leader Fazil Haq Qureshi and said such cowardly attacks would not cow down or interrupt the ongoing process of quiet talks and quiet diplomacy being carried out in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Home Minister assured the people of the state that the Centre remained committed to finding a solution through quiet talks with every shade of political opinion in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu, Dec 5 : Several employees of Jammu and Kashmir government evade tax deductions as they do not possess Permanent Account Number (PAN), the Income Tax Commissioner said here today.
Expressing serious concern, Income Tax Commissioner B L Razdan said, ''Many government employees in the state have not acquired PAN even as they receive taxable salaries.' The Commissioner, who had also taken up this matter with the ChiefSecretary, was apprehensive that in the absence of PAN, income tax might not be getting deducted from the salaries of such government employees.

Srinagar, Dec 5 : Life was today crippled due to general strike called by moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) in protest against the attack on its Executive Committee member Fazal Haq Qureshi in the city by unidentified persons last evening.
However, life in Baramulla was near normal.

New Delhi, Dec 5: The manager of the Jammu and Kashmir handicrafts emporium here has been arrested for trying to sell three Shahtoosh shawls made from the wool of a threatened Tibetan antelope.
'Mushtaq Ahmed was arrested Thursday for possessing these shawls. He has been sent to judicial custody,' a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) spokesman said here.
The Kashmir emporium is located on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, along with similar outlets of other state governments.
