Jammu, July 30: More than 48 hours after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah wrote to the Governor NN Vohra to accept his ‘resignation’ if the charges leveled against him by opposition Peoples Democratic Party leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig were true, the Raj Bhawan has advised the former that there are no basis for his seeking to resign and, therefore, he should vigorously devote himself to discharge of his responsibilities.
The Governor, who is away in New Delhi, sent this communication to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar who rushed straight to Hazratbal shrine and Mausoleum of his grandfather Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah for prayers. Official spokesman for the Chief Minister described it as “Governor’s communication proving the Chief Minister innocent”.

| Doctors on strike: emergency spared, other patients suffer | | | |

Jammu, July 30: The health and medicare services in the Government Medical College and its associated Hospitals as well as in periphery health institutions remained affected today due to the strike of junior doctors.
Meanwhile the patients and attendants who had come to hospital were seen sitting in OPDs of GMC Jammu and SMGS Hospital Jammu in a hope that after their protest the doctors will resume the services in normal routine.. However, there was no impact on emergency services as the same were kept out of the purview of the strike.

Jammu, July 30: In a display of their loyalties with their bosses, scores of National Conference activists today swooped down on the Jammu headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party leading to a clash with the Gandhi Nagar police in which at least one ruling party activist was injured.

Srinagar, July 30- Mr. Ghulam Nabi Wani (Rattanpuri) today filled nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat from Kashmir that had fallen vacant due to resignation of Dr. Farooq Abdullah on May 16, 2009. He filed the nomination papers before the Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mr. Mohammad Ramzan who is the Returning Officer.
Today was the last date for filing of nominations while the scrutiny of these would take place on July 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. August 1, 2009 is the date for withdrawal of nomination.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Mohammad Yaseen Malik, Thursday left for New Delhi from where he is scheduled to fly Pakistan to bring home his life partner to valley.
Malik tied the nuptial knot in February last with painter artist Mushaal Hussein Mullick in Rawalpindi.
A spokesman of the JKLF said that Malik left for New Delhi this morning. “He will leave for the Pakistan soon after getting the visa permit,” he said.
The spokesman said that Mushaal's documents were complete and requires just a visa from New Delhi for her first visit to valley. Malik was released recently after 100-days of house arrest.

Srinagar: Crimes in the Jammu and Kashmir have seen a surge in the last two decades with rape cases hovering above 200-hundred mark in last several years, reveals the latest survey conducted by the directorate of economics and statistics.
According to the survey, there is an increasing assault of sexual nature against the women with 169 cases surfacing in 2001 and 288 in 2007-08. The number has hovered in 200-mark from 2003 onwards, recording 211 in 2003, 218 in 2004, 201 in 2005, 250 in 2006 and 288 in 2007.

Srinagar: As many as 124 persons swapped sides along the Line of Control (LoC) via Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service on Thursday, official sources told Press Bureau of India.
Sources said, while 75 persons crossed over to Pakistan-administered-Kashmir, 58 persons from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) reached Valley after crossing "Kaman Aman Setu (Peace Bridge)" in Uri town of Baramulla district in north Kashmir.
