Jammu | July 31
Even though two Police officers had to removed from their positions to quell the protests following alleged barbaric acts of their colleagues but the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir Police deserves accolades for taking timely measures to cease the growing dissent against the men on Khaki.
In last four days of agitation, it could have turned into a mob versus Police battle if the DGO had not taken the timely action of ordering restraint. Since Monday the protests are keeping their tempo but there is no visible anger. This could happen only when the DGP thinned down presence of cops from the volatile streets where men in Khaki were seen as the hate s...

Jammu | Jul 31
After sunset when darkness engulfs this City of Temples, several groups of people come out of their houses and walk down the streets shouting ''Bam Bam Bhole'' under the light of 'mashals'.
But not for worship! A question may strike the mind at first if they are rehearsing for next day's protest demonstration against the government for restoration of forest land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
But for the class 12 student Bunti, who was one among the hundreds of people marching through the Baskhi Nagar at around 2200 hrs with torches in their hands, it was a judicious use of time. ''I wanted to complete my fourth chapter of Physics before goi...

| | | | Hello, Bijli hai…so goes the conversation | | | | Gareeb Das
Jammu | July 31
Whenever women talk to their friends or relations, these days, on telephone the main topic they seem to discuss endlessly is the "Bijli position”.
Instead of usual greetings the conversation starts with "Did you have power during the night?""Yes the two-hour schedule in power was strictly maintained but we had no electricity during the day," says the voice on the other end of line. Since women have better memory power than men they dish out hour by hour picture on the power cuts. Others discuss the menace of supply of power on a single phase.
They giggle when the two exchange notes on the minus points of single phase supply." We have to switch off the refri...
