DGP's unspoken message at PHQ: No one is welcome in his office without work, or cause | | | Bharat Bhushan
JAMMU, Aug 4: "Stooges" and "diplomats" may not find any place in new J&K DGP Ashok Prasad's office. While this was a cause of worry for the clever and tactful officers whose survival depended mainly on keeping their boss in good humour, others had a reason to be happy as they feel their genuine problems would be redressed.
Sources at police headquarters (PHQ) said that an unspoken message had gone from the DGP's office to his subordinates that "no one ought to come to him without any work, or a cause.
All of them were, however, welcome any time to discuss important matters concerning police. "For that, they need not to seek prior permission of the DGP," the sources added....
| | SVO fails to make impact inspite of its chief | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Aug 4: The State Vigilance Organization (SVO) is again in news. This time for booking a DFO, two range officers and a couple of others for looting the exchequer, but whatever the SVO has been doing for the last two years despite being headed by one of State's most honest, upright and God fearing officers, the organization has pathetically failed in making an impact either on corruption or on the minds of those who join Government services simply to make hay while the sun shines.
Ever since the SVO was created it has been seen and perceived by the general public as the bulldog of the political masters in power who from time to time have conveniently let it loos...
| | NC shying away from conducting elections...? | Local Bodies polls: all pretexts for deferment over..... | | ET Report
Jammu, Aug 4: Notwithstanding the assertion of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself a couple of times early this year on Government's intent to conduct elections to urban local bodies in the State, the ruling party is shying away from holding the polls and strategically delaying this exercise, much against the wishes of its alliance partner Congress.
According to sources the National Conference is neither willing nor prepared to face the electorate in either of the two regions as it fears debacle both at the hands of its rival parties as also in some pockets by its own ally Congress in the Local Bodies polls. The Congress on the other hand has been explicitly expressing ke...
| | Of Valley's changing political trends | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 4: Is Kashmir really changing? While nobody can be fully sure about it, the political experts do see a changing trend in the Valley.
For the first time in the past two decades the Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has taken interest in governance issues. He took the Government to task for its failure to provide basic facilities to the people. He accused the Government of failure for providing electricity and potable water to the people.
The 2008 elections witnessed massive participation of the people in Kashmir. The voters, however, told the media persons that they were voting for Bijli (Electricity), Pani (Water) and Nali (Drains). On the basis of ...
| | Fear grips vulnerable sections as Kashmir witnesses return of "unidentified culture" | | | Bashir Assad
srinagar, Aug 4: This year has not only seen a rise in militancy in the Kashmir valley with gunfights raging from North to South but is also witnessing return of the culture of unidentified gunmen due to which fear grips among the vulnerable sections of the society like elected Panches, Sarpanches, political workers and minority people holding back in Kashmir.
From episodes like fresh "threat letter" purportedly written by militants asking Kashmiri Pandits to leave the Valley and warnings issued to Panches and Sarpanches particularly in South Kashmir, it becomes abundantly clear that the "culture" of people being intimidated and at times killed by unidentified gunmen has...

| | Seeking to achieve the unachievable | Needed: State's Trifurcation | | Rustam
Jammu, Aug 4: Kashmiri separatists and the so-called mainstream leaders sing the same monotonous song everyday knowing it fully well that they are seeking to achieve the unachievable. Yesterday, the self-styled Nelson Mandela of Kashmir Shabir Ahmad Shah asked New Delhi to resolve the Kashmir issue and said that there is but one way in which the Kashmir issue could be resolved and that is by accepting Kashmiris as stakeholder like Pakistan. "No solution could be reached…unless India does not accept Kashmiri leadership as stakeholder like Pakistan", he said. Almost all the Kashmiri leaders, separatists included, have been saying the same thing on a daily basis, but without evoking an...
| | Will Anna wave cross over Pir Panjal mountain range? | | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 4: If ultimately team Anna forms a political party for contesting the next election will it cause any political convulsion in Jammu and Kashmir ? Will the formation of an Anna led political party lead to political permutation and combination in Jammu and Kashmir ?
Those who do not expect the Anna led political party to make any headway in Jammu and Kashmir and those who doubt whether the Anna wave will cross into Kashmir refer to July 2011 episode when the Valley had not experienced even a mild tremor over Anna who had taken the country by a storm.
Even if Anna gives a definite shape to his idea of forming a political party it may not set the river Jhelum...
| | Are Muslims really unsafe in Kashmir? | Abnormal Situation | | Neha
Jammu, Aug 4: Are Muslims really unsafe in Kashmir, which is 100 per cent Muslim and which has a Kashmiri Muslim-dominated dispensation? Yes, if one goes by what the Kashmir High Court Bar Association (KHCBA) said yesterday. It said that if the Kashmiri Muslims themselves are not safe in the Valley, how could the State Government and separatist leaders give assurances to Kashmiri Hindus that there would be no threat to their lives in case they returned to their original homes? Those ruling the State are saying they are not safe in Kashmir. It is ridiculous and amusing.
It was general secretary of KHCBA advocate GN Shaheen who expressed these views while addressing the condolence mee...
