TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Soz loyalists carry the day, Azad's demoralized
Messages from Cabinet reshuffle
1/16/2013 11:38:14 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: If the composition of Congress Ministry in Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress coalition Government is any indication, JKPCC president Saifudin Soz has emerged stronger as he has been instrumental in revamping the Congress Ministry and allotting portfolios in consultation with the Chief Minister. Though there is an apparent truce between the two warring factions of State Congress led by Soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad, however, indications are that Azad's wings have been clipped by the party high command and Soz has been given a free hand to decide about the organizational matters. This was evident from the fact that Soz loyalists got important portfolios while Azad loyalists barring Abdul Majid Wani were divested of important portfolios and re-allocating them to the Ministers owing their allegiance to Soz. Even though some Ministers of State from Azad camp have emerged powerful for being given independent charges of important portfolios such as Revenue, Health, Animal Husbandry. However, among the Cabinet Ministers Majid Wani is the only powerful Minister ...

Rajput community rues non representation
Cabinet expansion, re-shuffle
1/16/2013 11:37:55 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: In what could be perceived as a major political mistake, the ruling National Conference and its ally Congress party while focusing on "Mission 2014" have virtually failed to carry members of Rajput community on board. Yesterday's much awaited Cabinet re-shuffle and expansion witnessed non-inclusion of a person from Rajput community in the State Cabinet by both the coalition partners. Furthermore surprising was to see the one who were in Cabinet were shown doors by both NC as well as Congress parties, which has brought severe criticism from the Rajput community. It is worth to mention here that earlier Congress had chosen RS Chib in the State Cabinet as ...

Ousted Ministers have been punished with party positions?
1/16/2013 11:36:32 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: In what is believed to be an avatar of the 1963 Kamaraj Plan, State Chief Minister has removed six Ministers from his Cabinet belonging to the NC ostensibly to strengthen the party and gear up for the 2014 elections. When Prime Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru implemented the Kamaraj Plan he was actually doing some weed cutting from the Government as was proved by the later years. Pratap Singh Kairon of Punjab, Mohan Lal Sukhadia of Rajasthan and Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad of J&K were made to resign as Chief Ministers of their respective States apparently to work for the party. In his haste to have the Bakshi removed from the Prime Ministership of J&K, P...

NC MLA from Karnah declines to join VC Advisory Board in protest
Accuses party of humiliating Pahari Community
1/16/2013 11:35:37 PM
Bashir Assad JAMMU, Jan 16: Yet another political high drama was witnessed today when MLA Karnah, Kafil-Ur-Rehman declined to take the office of Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board for the development of Pahari-speaking people in protest against his non inclusion in the Council of Ministers. It merits a mention here that Government vide order No. 86 dated January15, 2013 nominated Kafeel-ur-Rehman MLA Karnah as the Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board for the development of Pahari-speaking people. However, reliable sources told Early Times that Rehman has declined to join the office in protest against what he termed as injustice to the Pahari speaking community for not giving them repre...

Omar has 'managed' to have loyalty of Ministers
1/16/2013 11:35:20 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in first Cabinet reshuffle has tried to keep control of party and governance in his hand by making five NC MLAs as the first time Ministers. While this is a move while keeping constituency factors in mind for 2014, it is also being seen as a step to have their unflinching loyalty as well. Akbar Lone, Mir Saifullah, Sajjad Kitchloo, Nazir Gurezi and Feroz Ahmad Khan are first time Ministers. They have been MLAs earlier also but couldn't make it to the Ministry as NC was not in power from 2002 to 2008 and also earlier Dr Farooq Abdullah had his own men in the Cabinet. The chief minister had the plans of dropping even stal...

Revamping of Ministry unlikely to help NC improve its image
1/16/2013 11:37:39 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: The NC-Congress coalition finally revamped and expanded its Ministry. The NC dropped seven Ministers and inducted an equal number of new faces, five from Kashmir and two from Jammu. Six belonged to the majority community and one minority community. As expected, the NC again ignored the Sikh community and the miniscule minority of Kashmiri Hindus. It also did not think it proper to give more representation to women in the Ministry. The Congress dropped one Minister and inducted three new faces, one from Kashmir and two from Jammu, all belonging to a particular community. The NC kept most of the vital portfolios with considerable political weight and funds ...

Fixing HSNP; tough job for people
1/16/2013 11:35:09 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: Fixing of High Security Number Plates (HSNP) has become a tough job for the people of Jammu these days due to large scale of irregularities of the Mazlon Pvt Ltd, the company which has been given the contract for fixing HSNP. People who are coming to fix HSNP on their vehicle alleged that company's staff is fleecing the consumers who had already paid around Rs. 400 to the Regional Transport department and were refusing to fix number plates on the due date. A consumer Sushil Sharma alleged that he was given the date of January 8, 2013 for fixing the number plate of his vehicle but on the due date officials at Mazlon Pvt Ltd office at old RTO Office Bikra...

`Petition against CM in SC over NC worker's murder'
Bhim hits hard at Ministers, calls them leeches
1/16/2013 11:34:59 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: The National Panthers Party (NPP) supremo, Professor Bhim Singh has called the recent Cabinet reshuffle yet another fraud on the people of Jammu and Kashmir. According to him, Omar launched his `B' team in the garb of this `fraud'. Talking to a Srinagar based news agency, Bhim said: "After the collapse of Omar Abdullah's 'A' team, he has attempted to play another fraud with the people of J&K by launching team 'B' of no less tainted Ministers than he had in his team A." Singh expressed shock that the Central Government had given its nod to the inexperienced, inefficient and the `Lord of the tainted Ministers' to paint black and white on the fading scree...

Is ground for military rule being smoothened in Pakistan?
1/16/2013 11:34:18 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 16: While Pakistani authorities have not considered it proper to initiate measures for defusing tension on the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir it has simply been playing with words to feign ignorance on the gravity of the situation. Instead of tackling its internal political crisis, that may swept away the Asif Ali Zardari led Government, it has decided to confront each and every move from Delhi or every utterances from India. The latest being Pakistan's reaction to the Indian Army chief, Gen Bikram Singh's comment. Islamabad has described Gen Singh's comment as very hostile without realising that Pakistani troops have been testing India's patience, which cannot b...
