| Girls outshine boys in academics, but lose shine in IAS | | | | early times report
Jammu, Jan 18: Education has reached women. But the fairer sex is yet to reap its fruit.
The newspapers may be plastered with the "Girls outshine boys" headline every time Class 10, 12 and graduation results are declared. But in spite of the girls outdoing boys time and again, their number in the cadres of Indian Admi-nistrative Services and Kashmir Adminis-trative Services (KAS) is low.
An academician at Jammu University blames lack of opportunity and disparity for the disappointing figures.
"It shows the disparity between girls and boys. It's all due to lack of opportunity for the girls. They are efficient but the society and the family do not give them opportunit...

Jammu, Jan 18: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah may well be painting 'all is well', image with the 'master stroke' he effected in making replacements and substitutions both within council of ministers as also within the party, but there appears to be no end to revolt from various districts, Kargil being the latest one where trouble has started brewing up.
If reports from Kargil are to be believed, two days after simmering protests and resentment expressed by the party functionaries against dropping of Qamar Ali Akhoon , erstwhile cabinet minister holding CAPD portfolio, the Wor-king Committee of the NC today resigned from the party. | | | | What makes you Minister in J&K? Ask, silent ones | | Of 45 NC-Congress MLAs; 35 enjoyed, enjoying Ministerial comforts | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Jan 18: Either you should be indispensible or too noisy or possessing traits of dissidence or enjoying proximity with 'high commands of respective parties'. This is what seemingly makes you Minister in the ruling National Conference (NC) - Congress combine.
If the recent reshuffle is any indication, then this fits the case. In Jammu and Kashmir, silence coupled with qualification does not count for anything. And if the NC and Congress sources are to be believed, every legislator wants to become minister and if his wish is not granted, he reserves right to threaten of leaving the party or to float a party of his own.
Reports emerging from the NC and Congress camp...

| | | | India refuses to walk into Pakistani trap | | Nation's psyche asserts | | | Neha
JAMMU, Jan 18: Had anyone in India expected that the ardent champion of one-sided "peace process" with Pakistan, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, would take the stand that he took on Tuesday that there can't be business as usual with Pakistan and that Pakistan must punish the perpetrators of the January 8 Mendhar brutal killing and mutilation of two soldiers and decapitation of Lance Naik Hem Raj? Certainly not. Then what happened that forced our Prime Minister, who remained silent for seven days despite the fact that the entire outraged nation had been criticising the Prime Minister and demanding stringent action against Pakistan, to come out with a very strong statement?
