Jammu, Oct 23: With thousands of patients running from pillar to post for medical aid, the impasse between government and agitating medicos today reached a point of no return as whip was cracked on as many as 51 junior doctors for refusing to call of the ongoing strike.
A decision to this affect was taken by the government late this evening after a high powered committee headed by the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather failed to negotiate with the doctors in its two rounds of talks held on Wednesday and Thursday. After the end of both rounds of meetings the government had claimed that talks were going on smoothly and results were expected soon. However, the government today had to initiate beginning of extreme steps by reverting a batch of doctors from Medical Education Department to Health Department while placing many others under suspension. Jammu, Oct 23: Jailed cop Manohar Singh, suspended and arrested in Amandeep Murder evidence destruction case, is reported to have made an unsuccessful bid on his life in central jail last night.
Sources said a jail guard spotted Manohar Singh making an attempt to strangulate himself with a loose sheet. The guard, sources said, raised alarm altering jail authorities. According to an order of the General Administration Department, Showkat Ahmed Fazili, General Manager Government Press Srinagar has been transferred and posted as Additional Secretary to Government, Labour and Employment Department against an available vacancy.
The order further said that Latief Ahmed Zargar, Additional Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department has been transferred and posted as General Managar, Government Press, Srinagar.

Seven people were killed and 13 injured Friday when a suicide bomber struck at an air force base in Pakistan's Attock district while eight people were injured in a bombing outside a restaurant in Peshawar.
The bombings took place as the army continued to tighten its grip in the country's restive northwest region dominated by Taliban fighters.
A suicide bomber riding a bicycle blew himself up at a security checkpost near Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra.

Srinagar Oct 23: An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley at around 01.21 am on Friday, but there was no report of any casualty, officials said.
Residents ran for safety as doors and windows of buildings rattled due to the quake, the epicentre of which was Hindukush mountains in Pakistan, they said.
Panic gripped the border town of Uri in Baramulla district, 100 km from here as people scampered for safety.
For nearly two hours, the residents did not return to their homes in fear, as the area had suffered extensive damage in the earthquake that struck on October 8, 2005.

New Delhi: Government on Friday indicated that it is planning to strengthen troop posts along the borders with China and acquire modern weaponry and specialised vehicles for soldiers guarding the icy frontier.
