10/24/2011 12:06:37 AM
Rustam Jammu, Oct 23: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday announced that he would withdraw the Armed Forces Special powers Act (AFSPA) from certain areas where things had considerably improved. As mentioned yesterday, it was a desperate move of the frustrated NC to woo Kashmir constituency - move which will boomerang. The response which the Chief Minister's controversial announcement evoked from Jammu and Kashmir was on expected lines. In Kashmir, the "mainstream" and separatist outfits dismissed the chief Minister's move saying what they needed was withdrawal of the AFSPA from the entire state and not from certain areas. Omar Under Attack
10/24/2011 12:05:02 AM
Neha Jammu, Oct 23: That the leadership of the state unit of the BJP consists of confused and directionless persons and that one leader says one thing and another altogether a different thing on the same issue was known to everyone in the state. That the state BJP has no definite opinion on any of the issues facing the state was, and is, also too well-known. That the state BJP leaders were a divided house and that they were making contradictory statements on the same issue became more than evident when the state BJP president Shamsher Singh held a press conference in Jammu only to dissociate himself and his party from the statements made by the party chief spokesperson that Chief Minister...

Is JI scared of pulling out of Huriyat (G)?
10/24/2011 12:04:24 AM
Jammu: Jama't-e-Islami (JI), it seems has decided not to severe relations with Hurriyat (G). Good for it. In the fast changing Kashmir, can it afford to lose Geelani's `patronage'? Geelani holds JI in high esteem. He has been saying that JI patronage made him what he is today. But in contemporary Kashmir, JI will be a loser if it pulls out from Geelani's Hurriyat. The wedge between Geelani and JI widened in February this year with the party deciding to pull out from Geelani's Hurriyat by April. However, assassination of Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees Chief, Moulana Showkat deferred the move. The decision has not been taken till date for unknown reasons. The JI took strong exception to Geelani...
