| Intrusion bid on Jammu frontiers, city put on alert | | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT0
JAMMU, Nov 4: Jammu City and its adjoining areas have been put on high alert as the BSF authorities claimed to have foiled major infiltration bid by heavily armed infiltrators along the International Border with Pakistan near Durga post at Makwal late last night.
Official sources said the infiltration bid was apparently supported by Pak rangers. Automatic weapons, rifle grenades and rockets were used by the infiltrators to target Indian posts in the sector, BSF IG AK Surolia said.
Two BSF jawans were also injured during exchange of firing which continued for over one and half hour, BSF authorities said after carrying out an on the spot visit to the sector.
A flag meeting between the Pak rangers and BSF authorities was also organized on Tuesday morning where BSF officials lodged formal protest with their counterparts.

NEW DELHI, Nov 4: India on Tuesday reopened the 'Fuk Che' airbase in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, close to both the Chinese and Pakistani borders for operating larger military aircraft.
The reopening of Fuk Che, close to Aksai Chin and Siachen Glacier, was formalised this morning with the landing of Indian Air Force's (IAF) An-32 transport aircraft for the first time after several years, marking a shift in airbase's operational profile, IAF sources told reporters here.
The airbase, sources said, currently has no equipment or facility to accommodate large transport aircraft or fighter jets.

NEW DELHI, Nov 4: Several banks are expected to cut their lending rates beginning tomorrow following Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's call for such a reduction in order to stimulate economic growth.
Apart from SBI, Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Bank of India (BoI) are also expected to decide on their rates this week.
A top BoB official said the bank was actively looking at a rate revision but would take a call only after due deliberation.
A few banks have already cut their lending rates. These include Punjab National Bank, IDBI Bank and Union Bank of India. Kolkata-based Uco Bank has announced its decision to cut its prime lending rate by 50 basis points by next week.
