JAMMU, DEC 3: After 100 days of street battles, bare chest protests and empty stomach marches, the aggrieved employees of state owned Road Transport Corporation today agreed to meet the government midway as they called off their strike following an assurance to address most of their grievances. The concrete results from the government are though yet to pour in, practically. The visibly amicable decision was taken in a meeting of the employees’ representatives with Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon.
Government agreed to release pending salaries, benefit of TA, DA and overtime, regular releasing of salaries, VRS benefit besides implementation of Road Transport Corporation 1950 Act fully. Government also agreed to run the J&K State Road Transport Corporation on the pattern of Himchal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation. Government however categorically refused implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission as would depend on the future income of the corporation.

JAMMU, DEC 3: The Government has approved the increase in the stipend of Rehbar-e-Zerat personnel from Rs. 1500 to Rs. 3000 per month with effect from the date the Budget Speech was made by the Finance Minister in the Legislative Assembly i.e. 10th of August, 2009.
The Chief Minister has also directed the agriculture department to gainfully utilize the services of Rehbar-e-Zerat personnel for capacity building of farmers and enhancing the agriculture production in the state by using modern technology. Jammu, Dec 3: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Hajj Minister Ajaz Ahmed Khan today received the first batch of Hajjis at Srinagar International Airport. In all 401Hajjis arrived in three flights to Srinagar.
Among others, present to receive the Hajjis were Minister of State for PHE, Tourism, Revenue and Housing, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, the Advisor to Chief Minister, Mr. Mubarak Gul, besides Mir Saifullah MLA and Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil, senior Congress leader and MLC. Jammu, Dec 3: A Vaishno Devi pilgrim allegedly attempted to commit suicide by jumping from a hill rock near Hathi Matha en route Katra in mountainous Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, police sources here said.
''A woman pilgrim Santosh, 24, allegedly jumped from the hill rock in a bid to end her life while she was returning to Katra along with her family members after paying obeisance at the Vaishno Devi Shrine last night,'' the sources said.
The woman, however, survived but got seriously injured.

SRINAGAR : The number of cross-border travellers in the Karvan-e-Aman bus remained low as only seven guests arrived here from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) while nine from here crossed to other side of the Line of Control (LoC).
Official sources told that seven guests, including two women, from PoK, arrived here in the Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad since April 7, 2005.

NEW DELHI, DEC 3: Strangely, there is no information regarding the Centre’s next Right to Information (RTI) Commission boss. And, thus, the present incumbent, Mr Wajahat Habibullah, is in a way stuck in Delhi despite his keenness to go to Jammu and Kashmir and set up the State RTI office.
The result of this delay in the appointment of Mr Habibullah’s successor leaves him less than 10 months time to accomplish the task of setting the RTI machinery in J&K rolling. Jammu, Dec 3: A Pakistan national who was undergoing trail and lodged in district jail Jammu died in Government Medical College hospital here after a illness today.
Pakistan national identified as Musa Khan of 65 years son of Fasadu Din was arrested during trans border bid in 1983 and was under trail. He was booked 14 Foreign Act. His hearing was suspended for a brief period due to his upper story problem. On 23 November he developed some pain in his kidneys and was sent to GMC hospital where he succumbed to pain. New Delhi, Dec 3 : Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday that the work of new line from Udhampur-Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir has been initiated.
In a written reply Muniyappa stated the section from Qazigund-Baramulla has already been commissioned.
"Surveys for Baramulla-Kupwra, Jammu-Poonch new lines have already been conducted.
