JAMMU, Feb 21: With army today seizing 15 kg heroin worth Rs 75 cr and 1 kg opium worth Rs 1 cr from two smugglers near the International Border (IB) at Hamirpur in Khour, Akhnoor, the state seems to be emerging as a safe transit point for drug peddlers, a fact that has acquired sharp focus since the arrest of senior J&K cadre IPS officer last year on drug smuggling charges.
The consignment was brought to this side by Pak smugglers and handed over to the two arrested Khour residents, according to police sources.
Astonishingly, the Pak smugglers crossed the border despite a tight security after the recent infiltration bids.

New Delhi, Feb 21: Less than a month after lifting of the ban on pre-paid mobile services in Jammu and Kashmir, some telecom operators are under the lens as the Government has objected to the manner in which the re-verification of subscribers have been done.
The government may also initiate legal action against defaulting operators, official sources said.
The issue of re-verifications reached the Union Home Ministry, which has sought a detailed report from various agencies in the state about the allegations made, the sources said.

Islamabad, Feb 21: Pakistan has shelved its plans of moving to the World Bank (WB) for resolving the long pending water distribution issues with India, as the two countries are preparing themselves for foreign secretary-level talks later this month.
According to sources, Pakistan, which had earlier threatened to take the Kishanganga dam issue to the World Bank, has now postponed the move and is waiting for the outcome of the foreign secretary-level talks, which is scheduled to take place on February 25 in New Delhi.
Officials of Pakistani and Indian water authorities may hold a meeting in March to discuss various issues pertaining to water distribution and building of dams.

Arms and ammunition were recovered by security forces from a militant hideout in Sarni nullah forests of Reasi today.Police sources said while making searches in the Sarni nullah forests of Reasi in the evening, a joint column of police and Rashtriya Rifles came across a militant hideout.
The search of the hideout led jawans to the recovery of one AK 47, its four Magazines, 410 rounds, one Chinese pistol, its one magazines, 24 Rounds, one radio set and miscellaneous items.
The hideout was later smashed by the troops, the sources added.
