| Rahul says UPA best bet for J&K , Omar Okays | | | |

Jammu , April 14: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday announced that the return of peace in Jammu and Kashmir was ensured during the five year rule of the United Progressive Alliance, UPA led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He said that Congress does not believe in communalizing the situation and asked voters not to vote for those who seek votes on communal lines.
Addressing a rally at Vijaypur in Jammu Rahul Gandhi said that Congress believes in uniting the country and not dividing it in the name of religion.
Rahul described the rural job guarantee scheme as the hallmark of UPA's pro-poor programmes. “Our party has delivered what it promised to the masses,” Rahul said.
"During the five years of the UPA government, major promises have been fulfilled and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) is the biggest success," Gandhi said, describing the NREGA as the biggest employment scheme in the world, he said the programme had been given legal backing to ensure its success.

Barring central and state government employees and in emergency cases, Tatkal passport would not be issued to anyone in Jammu and Kashmir for security reasons.
This information was given by the Regional Passport Officer (RPO) B S Manavian here during a programme last evening.
He said Tatkal scheme is applicable in all parts of the country except in Jammu and Kashmir and some border states for security reasons.
He said tatkal means an applicant can receive passport within 24 hours if he or she provides any three of the 14 documents approved by the Government of India.

New Delhi, April 14: With a day left for the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission on Tuesday banned dissemination of results of opinion and exit polls by the media.
The ban comes into effect from 15:00 hours today and has been brought in the wake of a Supreme Court order, the EC announced.
The EC had earlier issued guidelines which had made it clear that results of opinion and exit polls carried out any time "cannot be published, publicised or disseminated in any manner, during the period starting from 48 hours before the hour fixed for conclusion of poll in the first phase."
