Kapoor all set to take over CS
6/8/2008 11:27:34 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 8 Though a meeting of the state cabinet is slated to be held tomorrow to decide the name of next Chief Secretary besides other things Financial Commissioner Home SS Kapur seems all set to succeed BR Kundal who has been inducted as a Cabinet Minister. Reliable sources told EARLY TIMES that the Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have reached a consensus on the name of SS Kapoor who is the senior most IAS officer after BR Kundal. Interestingly, this will be the first meeting of the state cabinet in which BR Kundal will sit as a Minister and not as Chief Secretary. It may be mentioned here that Chief Secretary is the only officer who sits with the Ministers during the Cabinet meeting. Sources claimed that a room has been decked up for Kapoor and even a new bungalow has been allotted to him as per the status and protocol of the Chief Secretary. “The way preparations have been made for Kapoor leaves little doubt the final decision on making him the Chief Secretary,” said a top administrative source. Kapoor will be taking over as Chief Secret...

6/8/2008 11:26:56 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 8 With the arrest of three youth brandishing guns and other assault weapons on full day lights, it appears that crime is cropping up in the city in an organized manner. But for timely information and swift action by Jammu Police, the criminals would have done a rival to death. The Jammu Police today claimed to have averted a major tragedy by arresting three criminals along with arms and ammunition at the General Bus Stand. Cong snubs PDP on CBMs
‘Crude canards against Azad’s recall’
6/8/2008 11:26:35 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 8 The Congress today snubbed the Peoples Democratic Party for claiming credit of trans-Line of Control bus service as it said that the regions parties have no role in taking decisions which run beyond boundaries of the country. A senior party leader also said that canards are being spread against Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad that he was being recalled to New Delhi. He said that Azad’s growing popularity and his full control of political scene has frustrated the rivals and out of frustration they are spreading rumours against him. Without naming the Peoples Democratic Party, the PCC Vice President and Minister for Social Welfare Abdul Ghani Vakil s...

Jakhar sees stability returning
Governor address public meeting in North Kashmir
6/8/2008 11:26:04 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 8 The Madhya Pradesh Governor Balraj Jakhar, who is in Kashmir these days, has said that peace is a basic characteristic feature of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and this urge will soon bring a lasting stability in the region. Jakhar was addressing a public meeting in North Kashmir after inaugurating a health mela. It may be noted here that Governors are rarely seen as addressing the public meetings. Jakhar is also a top Congress leader, even though the post of Governor is apolitical. Addressing the large gathering on the occasion, Governor Madhya Pradesh said that Kashmiri people are peace loving and who have always stood for strengthening the bond...

Concessions to fuming industrialists likely
6/8/2008 11:24:58 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 8 Even though industrialists fumed over a cold shouldered response from the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his Jammu as he did not hold out any assurance on rolling back the withdrawal of excise incentives, but the Center government is reportedly working out a mechanism for offering relief to the industrial units. The industrialists in Jammu and Kashmir had been badly hit by the withdrawal of excise incentives through an order of the Minister of Finance issued in March last. Following this ‘draconian’ withdrawal they had run from pillar to post for relief but all in vain. Even a meeting with the Prime Minister during his Jammu visit in last week o...

It is self-rule versus greater autonomy in pre-poll campaign
6/8/2008 11:24:18 PM
Gareeb Dass Jammu | June 8 Though over five months are left for the Assembly poll the pre-election campaign is getting hotter day by day with catchy slogans, promises and assurances being dished out by several political leaders. Nothing bad about it.But the way politicians have started levelling allegations against one another seems to charm one segment of people and confuse the other side.To the National Conference leadership the ideas, slogans and assurances being made by the PDP are "hollow."The PDP treats the National Conference as the source of all prevailing ills, whether they be economic, political or security related, which continue to pleague Jammu and Kashmir. The Panthers Party and ...
