Jammu, Aug 28: Hundreds and thousands of crores of rupees are being spent on countering designs of an estimated 800 militants and wholesome policy framework –involving best minds from state and the country –is devoted in making Jammu and Kashmir free of militant violence. The multi-pronged clearly seems to have paid well as militant violence in the state is on constant wane for last few years but that does not mean innocent peoples are not losing their lives for hardly any of their faults.
Had militancy not involved the political questions of national integrity and sovereignty, hundreds would have been allowed to die unattended as it is happening on the roads of Jammu and Kashmir every new day. Ramban, Aug 28: A prolonged protest demonstration was held against traffic police following the death of a 20-year old youth who was crushed to death by an unknown vehicle at Tringla Batote on Jammu Srinagar National Highway late last night.
Protestors alleged that the deceased was hired by traffic police for realizing fine money from truckers on commission bases. Protestors also paralyzed National Highway Batote for about an hour demanding action against erring cops.

Srinagar, Aug 28: The Government today claimed that the National Hydro-electric Power Corporation –the major beneficiary of state’s water resources –has agreed to enhance one per cent power quota in addition to 12 per cent royalty quota due to Jammu and Kashmir on various projects.
Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora told Legislative Assembly, on behalf of the Chief Minister that NHPC has agreed to enhance 1% power quota for local area development in addition to 12% power provided to State from various power projects under its control.

| | | | Government to scrap all health regulatory bodies | | | | New Delhi Aug 28: The Union Health Ministry has decided to scrap all health regulatory bodies, including the Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India, Pharmacy Council and the Nursing Council.
There will instead be a single regulatory body the National Council for Human Resources in Health, which will oversee seven departments related to medicine, nursing, dentistry, rehabilitation and physiotherapy, pharmacy, public health/hospital management and allied health sciences.

Srinagar, Aug 28: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today adjourned the hearing till Monday on the bail applications of two police officers, arrested for allegedly destroying the evidence in the double rape and murder at Shopian in May this year.
Then Superintendent of Police (SP) Shopian Javid Iqbal Matoo and his deputy Rohit Baskotra had filed a criminal revision petition before the High Court after their bail applications were rejected by the Sessions Court, Shopian.

Srinagar, Aug 28: There was no incident of rape by security forces, custodial death and disappearance from January to July this year in Jammu and Kashmir, where 121 people were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Though the militant violence has come down, for killing three militants, one security jawan laid down his life in the state.
There was considerable improvement in the situation as only 45 civilians and 37 security personnel, mostly Army and Central paramilitary forces, were killed during the period in the state.
