TOP STORY OF THE DAY
GCET: Engineering College or Central Jail for students?
Punishment or reward for hardwork!
8/23/2014 12:09:35 AM
Syed Junaid Hashmi Jammu, Aug 22: Having seemingly become habitual of treating even professional colleges with contempt, Jammu and Kashmir Government has shifted Government College for Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu to an isolated place completely disconnected from the world outside. Students who are studying in the college feel as if they have been shifted to a jail, 20 kilometres away from Jammu city with no facility around. What to talk of major requirements of the engineering students, even those facilities which could be easily termed minimal are not available in and around the campus. Essential commodity shops are located several kilometres away from the college. There is no bank in and around the campus. Students face extreme difficulty in depositing fee or withdrawing money or opening a bank account. Being a completely rural area, no bank has extended ATM facility. Even for withdrawing petty amounts, students are forced to either take Janipur route or the road towards Akhnoor or the one connecting Muthi with Chak Bhalwal via Akhnoor. This takes around an hour or...

NC's Chief Ministerial candidate has no seat to fight elections from
8/23/2014 12:06:09 AM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Aug 22: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah might have declared himself as the Chief Ministerial candidate of National Conference for 2014 Assembly elections, but the truth of matter is that Omar is yet to find a constituency where from he will fight the elections. The National Conference is delaying the issuance of the fourth list of candidates and the primary reason is that they are not able to find a 'safe' seat for their working president who also happens to be the Chief Minister of the state. There are no more safe bastions and as such the party leadership is in a fix as to where from Omar will fight the elections. Sonwar was the last choice for Omar, but of late...

A person, who is a registered voter, is of sound mind and suffers no disability whatsoever under any law can be the Chief Minister irrespective of the faith he professes."
