SRINAGAR, Jan 18: With the three berths lying vacant and Mr Justice R C Gandhi, currently posted in Rajasthan High Court, reaching superannuation later this month, process of the appointment of few more judges for Jammu & Kashmir High Court is likely to go on fast track in a few days. Out of the sanctioned strength of 14 judges, Jammu & Kashmir High Court has currently a total of nine incumbents, two of them being from the states of West Bengal and Haryana. J&K has a total of 10 High Court judges, two of them being posted Rajasthan and Punjab & Haryana High Courts.
After Mr Justice R C Gandhi’s retirement at Rajasthan High Court later this month, J&K will be left with one-odd transfer posting of Mr Justice Pramod Kohli, presently posted in Punjab & Haryana High Court, against two non-state judges, namely Chief Justice Mr Barin Ghosh (West Bengal) and Mr Justice Virendar Kohli (Haryana). Jammu, Jan 18: As many crucial questions still remained unanswered on the Kashmir rail link, upon directions of Delhi High Court, the Railway Board will tomorrow examine a presentation by a petitioner-activist on safety risks.
The Center for Public Interest Litigations (CPIL) has continuously been challenging the safety measures on rail link connecting Kashmir with rest of country. The safety questions are being debated even as the Railway Board went for a major design change to skirt the risk factors. Jammu, Jan 18: Heavily armed infiltrators made two unsuccessful attempts to enter Jammu and Kashmir today by breaching the International Border (IB) from Suchetgarh and Kanachak areas of this district, official sources said.
BSF troops manning Indo-Pak border spotted a group of about five militants trying to damage fencing after entering the Indian territory from Suchetgarh in R S Pura sector of Jammu district, the sources said.
The infiltrators managed to escape after the BSF patrol party fired at them, the sources said.
Another infiltration bid by a group of militants was foiled by BSF near Tent Border Out post in Kanachak this morning, officials said.

New Delhi: With reports from Jammu and Kashmir indicating Chinese hold over Indian territory in its Ladakh division Minister of State for Defence M. M. Pallam Raju on Monday said India "need not be alarmed" as talks were in progress to settle the International border (IB) disputes.
He also gave the benefit of doubt to China on reports of Chinese produced arms finding their way to militants in the North-Eastern states.

Srinagar, Jan 18: After showing signs of some improvement, cold conditions intensified in Jammu and Kashmir this morning as mercury slipped to sub-zero in many parts of the state.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 1.2 degree Celsius as against 1.4 deg C yesterday, the Met office said.
The region had some relief from the cold conditions yesterday because of cloudy skies.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the valley at minus 4.0 deg C followed by Pahalgam in south Kashmir at 3.0 deg C.
Qazigund recorded minus 1.8 deg C followed by Kupwara at minus 1.7 deg C and Kokernag at minus 0.7 deg C.

Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, IAS 2008-09 batch, currently undergoing training has been allocated Jammu and Kashmir Cadre. A notification to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Personnel in New Delhi today.
