Jammu, Jan 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and some two dozen other legislators will set foot on the floor of legislative assembly first time ever as members of the eleventh Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly will be administered oath here tomorrow morning.
Incidentally the swearing in of new MLAs come on the day when Barack Hussein Obama takes over as next President of the United States of America.
Chaudhary Mohammad Aslam will administer oath to 86 members including the 44 members of the ruling coalition partners in the Assembly Complex in Jammu.
While state assembly comprises of 87-members, the number of MLAs currently stands at 86, as National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has resigned from the Hazratbal constituency while retaining the Sonawar constituency. Farooq Abdullah emerged as winner from both the constituencies.

Jammu, Jan 19: While University examination dates are approaching near; students from different city colleges have intensified their stir for the open choice on syllabus. Some students organizations are claiming that their syllabus could not be completed due to two-month long agitation in Jammu in summer of 2008. However, the Colleges have submitted report to the government saying syllabus was completed well in time by taking extra classes.
Agitating students of different degree colleges in Jammu, demanding open choice, were dispersed by heavy posse of police force outside Jammu university campus on Monday.

Bangladeshi nationals, police said.
A group of five people were trying to cross over to Pakistan via the International Border (IB) near the border fencing when troops of 142 battalion of BSF challenged them and arrested the five at Makwal border out post (BOP) in Samba district around 1000 hours today, they said.

Jammu, Jan 19: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the only surface link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, was thrown open to traffic today after remaining closed for more than a day due to heavy snowfall and landslides in the area.
"Highway was reopened for vehicular traffic after the landslide that hit Panthal area was cleared at 1100 hours and snow at Jawahir tunnel was cleared, traffic police officials said.
However, motorists have been advised to move slowly due to threat of more landslides in Panthan belt and heavy snowfall in Banihal and Jawahir tunnel areas.
