Jammu, Jan 25: Major Mohit Sharma of 1 Para (Special Forces), Major D Sreeram Kumar of 30 Assam Rifles and Havildar Rajesh Kumar of 11 Rajputana Rifles will be honoured with Ashok Chakra, the country’s highest peace time gallantry medal, on Republic Day on Tuesday.
President Pratibha Patil will present the medals to the two officers and the jawan during the parade in which South Korean President Lee Myung-bak will be the chief guest.
Maj Mohit Sharma and Hav Rajesh Kumar will receive the medals posthumously.
Apart from the three Ashok Chakras, President Patil will present Kirti Chakra, the second highest peace time gallantry medal, to Rukhsana, who shot into limelight after killing a Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist on September 27 last at Kalsian area of Shahdra Shrief in Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Ministry officials said on Monday.
Maj Mohit Sharma, born in Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh and commissioned in 90 Medium Regiment (Artillery) in March 2004, will get the award posthumously as he was killed in a battle with terrorists in the Hafruda forest in Jammu ... | |

Jammu, Jan 25: A day before Republic Day, at least three rockets were fired from a thickly-forested area of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Sabzian sub-sector of Poonch this afternoon.
Official sources said three rockets, fired from the forests of PoK at about 2.30 pm, fell and exploded in the proximity of Cobra-2 post of 86 Bn of BSF. There was, however, no loss to life or property of the troops as the rockets exploded in noman's land, the sources added. Sources said the vigil along the Line of Control (LoC) was further stepped up after this incident.
