JAMMU, Nov 7: The 'hollow claims' of National Conference- Congress coalition government to maintain accountability in governance once again came to fore as even after the lapse of two months, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's announcement to probe the irregularities in construction of bridges in Samba district is still waiting to take off. The Chief Minister had ordered an inquiry against the alleged use of sub standard material for the construction of bridges which were heavily damaged after few months of their commissioning due to incessant rains in district Samba.

Jammu, Nov 7: The University of Jammu squanders large amount of money on the procurement of examination forms and prospectuses every year which are left of no use in the subsequent year.
There is no mechanism to ensure safe accountability of sale proceeds as also to guard against misappropriation of money that exists in the examination department of the university.
According to an official document a large number of prospectuses are printed every year for sale in Distance Education and other departments of the University of Jammu. A major chunk of these prospectuses is rendered waste due to over printing thus wasting money.

SRINAGAR, Nov 7: More than 30 people, including a senior superintendent of police, were injured as clashes marred the Eid festivities in different parts of the Kashmir Valley, police here said.

SRINAGAR, Nov 7: A moderate earthquake jolted the Kashmir Valley Monday evening even as the people were busy with Eid celebrations. No loss of life or property was reported.
"A moderate intensity quake hit the Valley at 5.29 p.m. this evening. The quake measured 6.0 on the Richter scale with coordinates 36.6 degrees north and 71.1 degrees east.
"The epicenter of the quake was in the Hindukush mountains of Afghanistan," Sonam Lotus, director of the local weather office, told .
"I noticed the ceiling fan swinging and this alerted me. I ran out with children into the lawn," said Bashir Ahmad, 59, who lives in north Kashmir Ganderbal town.
