| | | | Sopore encounter proves militancy is far from over | | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Dec 20: The Sopore encounter in which six LeT militants were killed by the security forces has thrown up some serious questions which must be answered before the State Government harps on the tune of normalcy having returned to the Valley.
According to the police the group had recently moved into Sopore as the cadres of the LeT operating in the area had been depleted in recent days.
Sadapora village is situated barely 3 kilometres away from Sopore town. The houses from which the holed up militants engaged the security forces in a sustained encounter for over 10 hours are situated close to the highway. This puts a question mark on the assertion that the numbe...

It was reliably learnt that a KAS officer of 1996 batch was a Hizbul Mujahideen militant. Reports suggest that he was an expert in manufacturing improvised explosive devices. He even lost one of his hands in a blast. He is currently posted in North Kashmir where militants are trying their best to revive militancy.

Incidentally, doctors on anonymity said that the NPA admissible to Aniece is higher and far more than the total salary of ordinary teachers or IV class re...
| | | | Results of assembly elections in Gujarat to impact national political scene | | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 20: Results of assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are out. The Congress has won in HP and got just one seat more than the required magic figure. It could be described as a victory by default in the sense that it was the election strategists of the BJP who handed over the state to the Congress on a platter. Had the BJP contained dissidence in the party and accommodated the potential rebels within the party, it would have retained control over the state power. It would not be out of place to mention here that while four of the BJP rebel candidates have won, at least half a dozen of other rebel candidates marred the electoral prospects of the par...

These days APHC (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, along with six other Hurriyat leaders, is advocating a solution to the Kashmir "problem" giving the people of the hostile country to understand that he and his separatist and extremist outfit represent the general will in the state. This is not true. Every...

Jammu, Dec 20: Some Congress leaders from Jammu, including MP Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency, met the Union Home Minister and Prime Minister on December 18 and 19, respectively, in New Delhi and urged them to recognize the fundamental right of the 1947 refugees from West Pakistan (mostly those belonging to depressed classes) to exercise all normal civil and political rights which are available to all the Indians across the country.
