| Former Minister PN Raju’s 2 sons among 4 dead in NH road accident | | | |

Udhampur July 7: In a gruesome tragedy four Congress activists including two sons of former minister PN Raju were killed while another got seriously injured when a Maruti car they were traveling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge at Jakhani near Udhampur on Jammu-Srinager National Highway today.
Representing Ramban segment, PN Raju was one among the most prominent and loyalist National Conference leaders of Jammu province. Until mid-1990s when National Conference returned to power, Raju was party’s provincial president. He had died few years ago.
Police said that four persons including identified as Vijay Singh and his brother Shakti Singh Raju, sons of former Minister and Provincial President National Conference PN Raju, of Ramban were killed in the mishap.
The other two deceased have been identified as Sham Singh son of Faquir Chand and Hari Bhagat son of Inder Singh, both residents of Maitra, Ramban.

JAMMU, Feb 07: Thirty four people were trapped in flash floods caused by incessant rains in the ferocious Chenab river at Kansi Patta in Reasi this evening.
Ten of them were drivers, while the others were labourers, who had gone in 10 tippers to the island in the river to collect sand.
Official sources said as it rained heavily in upper reaches today, the Chenab was flooded all of a sudden as a result of which the island was cut off from the approach land at about 4.30 pm. All the 34 people were marooned as they did not get a chance to escape, the sources added.

Srinagar, Feb 7: The assurance of the Chief Minister and his senior minister Ali Muhammad Sagar notwithstanding, justice seems a distant dream for the relatives of Zahid Farooq, a student of 11th standard who got killed in mysterious circumstances on February 5 at Brain, Nishat.
The Chief Minister ordered a high level probe into the killing after half an hour of the incident. The probe was entrusted to divisional commissioner Kashmir, Naseema Lanker. She has been told to submit a detailed report within a week. The probe commenced today and the report is expected shortly.

New Delhi, Feb 7: Days after India proposed Foreign Secretary-level talks with Pakistan, sources said on Sunday the talks could take place either on February 18 or 25 in New Delhi.
The government is expected to call an all-party meet before holding the talks to take every political spectrum into confidence.
While terrorism is going to be the major focus of the talks, humanitarian and consular issues, trade and confidence building measures will also be discussed.

New Delhi, Feb 7: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday said Jammu and Kashmir bears the brunt of terrorist acts.
Speaking at the Chief Minister's Conference on Internal Security, the PM said: "Hostile groups and elements operate from across the border to perpetrate terrorist acts in our country. The State of Jammu and Kashmir bears the brunt of the acts of these groups."
