| Security up as first phase polling today | | | |

Jammu, Apr 15: Intelligence inputs and speculations about possible militants’ strike in Jammu city in wake of parliamentary elections tight security has been put in place for tomorrow’s first phase of parliamentary elections in which Jammu- Poonch constituency would go to poll with four districts. Meanwhile, poll related material and officials of the state government have been sent to the respective polling stations for carrying out poll duties.
Besides outer districts of Jammu region including Samba, Rajouri and Poonch, the security has also been beefed up in the ‘City of Temples’ with deployment of additional forces for free and fair Lok Sabha polls.

JAMMU, APRIL 15: As many as 17.21 lakh voters will decide fate of 21 contestants on Thursday in the first phase of polling in Lok Sabha elections in Jammu Parliamentary constituency (PC). Jammu PC is going to polls along with 123 other constituencies spread over 15 states of the country.
A total of 20 Assembly segments spread over 4 districts will go to the polls with a total electorate of 17,21,696 including 23,674 service voters. Polling would be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow simultaneously at 2,210 polling stations set up across Jammu, Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu Parliamentary constituency.

NEW DELHI: After Hizbul Mujahiddin chief Syed Salahuddin threatened to disrupt the poll process in Jammu and Kashmir, Army today said that the militant's threat was taken "seriously" and that it was working to ensure free and fair elections in the state.
"This threat, which has been issued by Syed Salahuddin to interfere with elections in Kashmir has been taken seriously by us...it is our duty to make sure that the electorate is not intimidated and the election process is fair and free," Army Vice-Chief Lieutenant General Noble Thamburaj said. NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today ruled out resumption of talks with Pakistan as long as it allows terrorists to use its territory against India and shows "sincerity" in bringing the perpetrators of Mumbai attacks to justice.
He also rejected as "not true" Islamabad contention that India has not provided sufficient evidence to Pakistan in connection with the 26/11 attacks.
"The present situation is so long as Pakistan chooses to allow its territory to be used against India, no negotiation can take place.

JAMMU: BSF troops today arrested a youth from Kolkata under suspicious circumstances near the Indo-Pak border in Jammu district, official sources said.
The jawans of 135 battalion of BSF observed some movement near the international border (IB) in Nawapind border outpost in R S Pura border tehsil in Jammu district, they said.
They saw 17-year-old Chand Lohar moving around under suspicious circumstances near the IB and later arrested him, they said. Nothing incriminating was recovered from him, they said.
