Bashir Assad Srinagar, Apr 15: Misappropriation of funds released under Catchment Area Treatment (CAT) at various HE projects by the Forest Department which was the implementing agency was reported earlier by the Early Times, however, the latest information shows that the amount misappropriated by the department runs in hundreds of crores and Nimmo Bazgo is the latest entry to the list. So for out of 255.46 Lacs released towards CAT plan by NHPC at Nimmo Bazgo Hydroelectric Power Project , the department of Forests and Soil Conservation have furnished utilization certificate to the Corporation for only 155.65 Lacs. The twin departments have misappropriated Rs. 100 lacs under CAT. However, the utilization certificate furnished by the government for 155.65 lacs is strongly contested by the departmental sources which claim the CAT plan has not seen light of the day as yet at the project site. Documents available with the Early Times also show that out of 912.055 lacs released by NHPC/central government for environmental management at Uri Hydroelectric Power Project under...
